*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Okay, now that we've gotten past that odd prequel story from last issue, hopefully we can just jump into this and get the answers about Jason that we've been waiting more than a year to find out about...... because if we don't, I'm going to be a grumpy Gus.  Grumpy Gus' aside though, in case you haven't been following this arc, let me catch you up.  We've seen Grail, Daughter of Darkseid systematically take out the children of Zeus so that she can feed their life force to Darkseid so that he can become the threat that he once was.  Now though, Diana has found out about her brother and his location so hopefully with the Wonder Twins teaming up they'll have a chance against this threat.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins on the night of Diana and Jason's birth on Themyscira and we see how Jason was whisked off the island to save him from the wrath of the gods and given to the enchanted immortal Argonaut Glaucus to raise the boy and keep his origins secret from him.  Yeah, Glaucus isn't about keeping secrets from Jason though, so eventually he told the boy about his origins and now that Diana has found her brother, he hopes that she'll be able to fill in the gaps about why their mother never came for him........ or their father.

Really though, with the Lies and Truth still in Wonder Woman's continuity, it makes sense why Hippolyta never came for her son and with the Gods just coming in the forms of animals now.......... well, Zeus was never  a father figure anyway.  With this introduction of brother and sister we mostly just get Jason caught up to speed with the idea that Grail is killing the children of Zeus and that Wonder Woman wants him by her side when they finally face her.

In the end, it looks like Wonder Woman won't get her wish because this entire issue of them catching up with one another was just a way to kill time until Grail finally arrived and we find out that Jason hates his sister because of everything she was given, while he was tossed away and feels more of a kinship with Grail.  During this fight we see that Jason has different powers from Wonder Woman, when he creates a tsunami to take her out and our issue closes with Wonder Woman at the mercy of Grail and her newfound brother.

That's it for this issue of Wonder Woman and I'd be lying to you if I told you I saw this betrayal coming......... or that I liked it.  Yeah, call me sappy, but I was really looking for Jason and Diana to hit it off and him becoming a regular hero of the DCU or at least someone that the League called on from time to time........... Hell, really, I was just looking to call Diana and Jason the Wonder Twins, but now it looks like that's never going to happen and even though I don't like this turn of events....... It does make sense for Jason to possibly hate Diana for him being abandoned the way he was, which is at least interesting.  Yeah, there was a lot of filler in this issue for us to get to our twist, but all in all this was a decent issue, with decent art and I'm now back on the trolley with this arc and look forward to seeing where it goes.

Bits and Pieces:

Wonder Woman and Jason finally get together in this issue, which I'm happy as hell about, but my biggest problem with this issue is we spend way too much time recapping what has gone down.  With that though, this is still an interesting issue with an awesome twist that I can't wait to continue reading next issue.

  1. The twist literally came flying out of left field but I liked it ... it shocked the hell out of me since I some how avoided that spoiler. I'm interested to see the odds stacked heavily against WW to see how see responds here, different feelings about twist but I agree w that score 100%
