*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The wedding is fast approaching and now that we have that whole "Ivy taking over the world" in the rear view, it seems that it's all about getting everything ready for the big event.......... and really, there isn't much else to say to get you ready for this issue.  So let's just jump into this issue and see what Tom King has for us with this issue of Batman.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

In this issue we see a night where apparently Batman isn't going out to save the city because Selina and Bruce are in bed together until Selina sneaks out so that she can break into a dress shop to find her perfect wedding gown.

Now with that, I have to wonder is this because she is still wanted for mass murder and can't go out and about like a normal person or because like we see in one of the many flashbacks in this issue portraying Batman and Catwoman's interactions over the years, where she says, "A leopard can't change his spots"?  Either way, it feels weird that Selena is marrying Bruce and still stealing, not to mention blowing a hole in the bottom of the shop so that she could make her entrance.

In the end, after laying on the floor for a while, drinking some champagne, looking at different dresses, Selina finds a black and white number that really catches her eye and she returns home....... with what looks like a pink dress, but maybe she's only hiding in the closet so Bruce won't find it, but with that, she returns to bed, with Bruce none the wiser.

That's it for this issue of Batman and like usual, there isn't much to this issue.  A lot of silence, weird situations, repeating dialog, odd jokes between Batman and Selina and some really decent art.  That's what Batman can be summed up to anymore and it's a real disappointment because where I'd like to know if we're ever going to get any of the dangling plot holes filled before the wedding issue, it seems instead that we're going to just get some boring situations that take up an entire issue.  So yeah, not much to this, but we got some really nice looking pages....... besides for the dress in the closet at the manor.......... I don't know what was up with that.

Bits and Pieces:

While some may like this issue because they're getting all excited about the upcoming wedding and maybe because they like wedding preparations for some reason but this  issue was just another in a long line of boring, underwritten issues that fails to answer any of the lingering questions we have about what's going on in this run of Batman.  The biggest takeaway from this is that you at least have some decent art as Catwoman does her thing throughout the night.

4/10

  1. Just FYI, wedding dresses (or any large formal gown really) come in dress bags to protect them from dust and so forth when hanging in your closet. That’s the pink you’re seeing, the dress bag she took to cover her wedding gown.

    1. Ha ha, thank you for filling me in. I guess if tuxes come in bags, it makes sense that a gown would too.

  3. Congratulations King! You manged to make a whole issue about stuff other people have already written. How ingenious, Cause everyone knows the best episodes of any show are the recap ones...Also I see Alex Ross finally found a rival for biggest boner for the Silver Age.

  7. I've been largely in agreement with Jim and Eric's feelings on this book, but to a slightly lesser degree. This issue got me so pissed off I actually pondered dropping it from my pull list. From the first panel I was irritated. The idea that at 2:30 in the morning Bruce is sound asleep, and sleeps clear through until nearly 8AM and doesn't notice Selina snuck out is such complete and utter fucking nonsense and I've about had it with this. People who like Tom King's Batman because "he's so human" must in fact like Tom King's Batman because HE'S NOT BATMAN. Only 56 more issues (plus annuals and specials) until King hits his hundred. Good grief! At least it's double shipping so it'll come quicker.

    1. eeeeh.
I cannot stand another 50 issues of crap. What happened to the Batman that is a detective? That endures all that pain and nightmares because he is a true hero? A Batman that is INTO THE MISSION and is not going to leave it for anyone. Not even for Alfred.

  8. The only thing I liked about this book was Joelle Jones' art. The story was a complete meh. It would have been better if Selina was kicked out of the dress shop during the day because she was recognized as a thief. Then Bruce has a seamstress come to the mansion and the issue does a whole Pretty Woman scene where Selina is Julia Roberts. That would have been a better "slice of life" issue.
