Okay, we're at issue #10 and I think it's about time we learned how the Young Justice team know about each other, like the Pre-Flashpoint version of Superboy and Impulse and if they remember this, how they don't remember their time as Teen Titans after Young Justice ended....... again, Pre-Flashpoint.  It's all weird and that's only half of it.  We still should find out how Earth-3 is still around, but I don't think that's possible since it only looks like we have this issue left there and the majority of that is about Jinny Hex's origin.  Hopefully something feels worthwhile in this issue because Young Justice so far just seems like a hodgepodge of what Brian Michael Bendis thinks he knows about the characters.  Let's jump into this issue and see if anything changes here.

Like I said in my opening paragraph, this issue primarily deals with the origin of Jinny Hex, which really, is the highlight of this book because we see her acting like a hero in her hometown before she's given her truck of secrets from her dying mother.  While this part of the book is pretty enjoyable, since there's noway that Bendis can screw up the continuity of this character..... it's still just Jinny being given a box and her finding out that it belonged to her Great-Great-Grandfather, Jonah Hex, which we already knew.

The rest of the book is just kind of nonsense as we continue the fight with what I can only assume Bendis is calling the Earth-3 counterparts to our team, The Young Fuckers, but this fight doesn't really add anything to the characters he's created for this world that should be destroyed.  The biggest point of this fight is Jinny Hex grabbing something from her truck and growing....... or adding different versions of herself to add to the fight, but the art in this section..... or at least the coloring left me not really certain of what Jinny Hex did to turn the tables on the Young Fuckers.  Hell, I'm still wondering why Stephanie Brown of this world is a good Batwoman.  It doesn't make much sense.... and neither does Tim Drake going by Drake here, but it is what it is I guess.  Ultimately, our heroes make it home and then......... there's Naomi...... So yeah, Jinny Hex has a trunk of weird stuff.

All in all, Young Justice still doesn't feel like a thought out book, where characters are just there with no explanation..... or worlds for that matter and this whole Earth-3 jaunt feels like just a backdrop for the new Drake name and Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex's backstory, leaving the actual progression of Young Justice meaning not a lot for the team, who still barely know each other and the ones that do...... I don't understand how they do.  The art is decent for the most part, but I found myself not understanding some of the scenes for how they were depicted or how they were colored and ultimately, I'm still not a fan of this book and am just waiting for it feel like something worthwhile..... or at least thought through.

Bits and Pieces:

We're done with Earth-3 and besides for getting flashbacks to origins and a new name for Robin, there didn't seem to be a reason for any of this in the long run and I've completely lost faith in this series making any sense or finding out any answers to what's going on in the continuity.  The art is fine for the most part, but it feels like Bendis is having trouble in dealing with more than one character at a time here.

5/10

  1. So Tim became Drake before the team got home but over in Batman he recently appeared in his Robin costume which has to take place after YJ got home because before Bruce was exiled from Gotham YJ made a cameo appearance in one of the pre-City of Bane issues. It seems nobody at DC cares about continuity so it's not just Bendis.

    1. It's true...Tom King hasn't in a long time. Heroes on Crisis was a big example! Personally, the Bendis stuff sticks out more, not just because he seems to bot care to learn or ask even though he is the new guy, but because nobody has the knowledge or guts to tell him when something is wrong.

    2. I would love to see Jinny Hex get her own six issue mini-series. Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and drawn by Amanda Connor.

    3. How dare you!!!! I was saying a Jinny Hex series was going to happen today at work and Palmiotti Conner would be an awesome team! Palmiotti knows Jonah Hex better than most and it would be cool to give him Jinny!!!
