Eclipso has come to Earth and plans on..... Well, Eclipso things and in order to stop him we'll need the Fastest Man Alive, not only for his speed but because with his even-keel attitude, Wally West seems to me immune to Eclipso's influence. At the end of the previous issue, we saw Doctor Fate bring Wally to Gemworld, where the duo were met by the rest of the Justice League Dark and hopefully with this amount of power, our heroes will be able to take this being of darkness down and maybe explain why he was imprisoned in a cosmic glaive. Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

For this issue of The Flash we have our hero teamed up with the Justice League Dark and Amethyst and in their pursuit to take down Eclipso they realize that they need one more on their team and that's the Dark Lord Opal. That's pretty much the majority of our Wally West part of this issue. We have our heroes in Gemworld, they fight a Graboid and figure out that Eclipso needs to use the world as an antenna and while I think that this storyline could have been really cool, the way we get to the information, even the Justice League Dark and Amethyst just being in Gemworld feels like it's just there with no explanation and while this storyline might have been cut short a bit because of the crossover coming up, this idea we're given here could have been huge but the way it was presented makes it feel rather small.

Now while I love Wally West, his portions of this issue aren't the highlight of the book as we spend an equal amount of time dealing with Wally and Linda's kids, Jai and Irey and in this look at the youngers we see Jai writing in his "Action Log" about his feelings in not having powers like his father and sister and through this we see a lot of interesting things dealing with the kids, most interesting is it looks like Irey has befriended Maxine Baker, the Animal Man's daughter and boy is she a handful. This aspect of the book seems like it will be a lot of fun moving forward.

All in all, I loved the art in this issue and loved everything that we did with Jai and Irey....... I just wish that I loved the big story beats as much as the secondary ones because our hero's quest to take down Eclipso with the freaking Justice League Dark for how big and amazing that feels.... just came off like it didn't matter much or wasn't all that thought out in bringing these characters together. The ultimate plan of Eclipso though in using Gemworld as an antenna to influence the whole of the Multiverse.... (at least that's how I read it) is an amazing idea, but the progression to get there came off a bit lackluster. Hopefully, this aspect of the story ends up feeling as big as it should because right now I'm just here for the kids.

Bits and Pieces:

The Flash is done with gimmicks and is going after Eclipso with the Justice League Dark and this premise alone should be enough to get anyone excited but sadly the outcome isn't as cool as it should be and I was left rooting for the sections with Jai and Irey, which isn't a bad thing, but I would have liked to love everything here, not just one part. The art is great here and the overall concept of the story is great but the way it's delivered left me wanting more.

  1. I didn't realize Maxine was Animal Man's daughter until I read this review. I'm guessing we'll see him before too long and hopefully a reference to his and Wally's time in the JLE. Or is that expecting too much? Is his son still dead btw?

    1. I wish I knew what was up with the Baker Family but with most things post Death Metal and people dying and being brought back I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the current status quo for everyone is.
