DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army Of The Dead #6 ends the arc with a knockdown, drag-out fight to the finish between Easy Company and the undead forces of Hitler.
Is It Good?

This is it, Screwheads! DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army Of The Dead #6 is the climactic finale you have been waiting for, and it does NOT disappoint. I wonder why more comic readers aren't discussing this series, but they should.

When last we left, Sgt. Rock, he gave Hitler a too-close shave with a knife to the throat while Easy Company fought for its life against undead hordes outside the bunker. Now, the reanimation serum keeps Hitler on his feet, and Sgt. Rock is forced to overcome the overpowered Fuehrer before the second wave of bombers turns the bunker into a smoking crater.

It's all about the Nazi-fighting action, Folks. Sgt. Rock gives as good as he gets, and anyone who's leaned hard into the "Always Punch Nazis" philosophy will find their heartstrings all aflutter. You won't find lengthy dialog, expositional flashbacks, or quiet moments of reflection. This issue is simply a fight between good and evil; you love seeing it.

To be clear, this is more than mindless action with a point. Easy Company saves the day (naturally), but the war isn't over in this version of history, and a well-placed epilogue opens the door for more exciting stories in the future.

In terms of art, this may be Risso and Rossi's strongest issue yet. The hits come fast and hard with plenty of energy. Rossi's coloring creates a grungy, grindhouse layer that will make fans of underground films (as I am) very happy. And the overall aesthetic is perfect for a war-centric horror story.

Bits and Pieces:

DC Horror Presents: Sgt. Rock vs. The Army Of The Dead #6 gives horror/grindhouse fans exactly the ending they want to see. The brutal fight between Sgt. Rock and Hitler is cheer-worthy, and the epilogue teases even weirder adventures.

9/10
