New Gods #1, by DC Comics on 12/18/24, regales readers with the tales of Gods and Monsters when Darkseid's death instigates a new prophecy from the Source, prompting Highfather to assign a deadly task.
Is New Gods #1 Good?
First Impressions
When this title was announced, my gut reaction could best be summed up as "Oh, no." When you combine DC's most high-brow cast of characters and turn the property over to DC's most pretentious (unsuccessfully so) writer, all signs point in the wrong direction. That said, New Gods #1 has merit. You have to wade through some flowery nonsense to get to the heart of the story, but once you get there, the hook is solid. Let's see if it holds up.

Final Thoughts
New Gods #1 is an interesting start to a new tale when Orion is forced to carry out an extreme order, and only Mister Miracle can get him out of it. The heart of Ram V's story is intriguing and ripe with potential, even if his penchant for overwritten narration rears its ugly head, and the art team's visuals make this issue one of the best-looking #1s DC put out this year.

Wow, it's exciting to see how the characters are evolving! Just like mastering a tough jump in geometry dash lite this comic seems to promise a thrilling ride!
ReplyDeleteIt's strange that the DC universe doesn't make its characters more popular. The characters and stories are so compelling.
ReplyDeleteEven though Ram V's tendency to write too much narration gets in the way, the heart of his story is interesting and full of possibilities.
ReplyDeleteOh, interesting thoughts about New Gods #1! I was also skeptical about this comic at first — the combination of "highly artistic" characters and the author's pretentious style was a little daunting. But, as you pointed out, if you get through all this "flowery" prose, the story is really touching. I liked that, despite the excessive detail, the plot hook works and keeps your attention. Reading comics is sometimes like searching for real meaning amid the noise, and it requires patience. By the way, while I was thinking about this, I came across www.flirtini.com/cougar.html — it's a milf dating app, and there, in addition to dating, you can find interesting tips and reviews from people from different walks of life. It's interesting how sometimes unexpected resources help you find inspiration even in comics or new hobbies.
