Weird Science DC Comics News: Week of 9/5/14

Are you ready for some...DC Comic News?  I know, it's Football Sunday and unless you are a Seahawks or Packers fan, the wait is finally over.  I am a Philadelphia Eagles fan and I just got back from buying wings and I am ready.  By the way, have you guys heard that Justin Gray is the DC Comics wing eating champ?  The Eagles are up against the Jaguars today and no offense to Jags fans (are there any?), it should be an easy game.  My prediction for a final score is 31-13.  Staying on the football tip, we have a pool at work where you just pick straight up winners and fellow Weird Science writer, Eric Shea, picked Green Bay on Thursday.  He tried to weasel his way out of it ("I know I picked Seattle...wah, wah), He may know Green Lantern, but Eric don't know football.  I mean, the guy picked the Titans over the Chiefs.  (note to editor: if the Titans win, remove that sentence).  Well, I better get to it because the game is starting soon, so...

Secret Six is Back

Gail Simone announced that The Secret Six is back.  Well, she kind of teased it right after she left Batgirl in July, but now it's official. I know that people go nuts for the Six, but it was never a favorite of mine.  I think I'm going to give this one to Eric to review.  He's better at that then picking Football games, thank God.  It's confirmed that Catman and Black Alice will be part of the team and rumors have Strix (Batgirl's mute Talon friend last seen in Birds of Prey) will be in as well.  I hated the Birds of Prey book, but really like Strix so I hope she is involved.  The book will launch in December with Dale Eaglesham on art.

Charles Soule...Out

I love Charles Soule.  You know the saying, "If you love him so much, why don't you marry him?"  Well, if that would keep him at DC
(and my Wife would allow it), I would.  Earlier this week, Marvel announced they had made an exclusive deal with Weird Science's writer of the Year for 2013.  This news just sucks.  Soule did announce that he would be finishing up his arcs on Swamp Thing, Red Lanterns and Superman/Wonder Woman in the way he always planned, but that doesn't dull the pain.  I did chuckle at Marvel's announcement where they list Soule's books including "various DC Titles".  Good Luck to Charles Soule, but a guy with that much talent doesn't really need it.

Ra's al Ghul Casting

We all know that Liam Neeson has a very particular set of skills, but that didn't land him a reprise of his role as Ra's al Ghul on CW's Arrow.  Nope, Matt Nable from "Riddick" will play .  He will make his debut on the October 29th episode titled "The Magician".

Other Casting News

This one may have slipped through the cracks, but Dwayne Johnson announced he will play Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie.  I'd like to be the first one to wish this newcomer good luck.

Pick of the Week

The Futures End Event started this week and while i found most of the books subpar (mainly as Futures End Tie-ins), I loved Green Arrow: Futures End #1.  It does mark the last issue for the creative team of Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino so it was a little bittersweet.  My review is HERE

Dot...Dot...Dot

If there is a Supergirl TV Show, I hope Bran Q. Miller is involved...What is Christos Gage up to and why does he keep teasing me...Can anyone beat Justin Gray in a Wing Off?...I really don't like Warren Sapp...I'm already eating wings and I've already eaten too many...I have to go because the Eagles game has just started...Foles just fumbled, crap...

Another Week, Another News.  Jim "Wing Off" Werner...Out!

  1. Of course I make fun of Eric and the Eagles are down 14-0. I'm waiting for the fans to start yelling for Mark Sanchez.
