Five Questions With...Landry Q. Walker

It's been a while since I did a Five Questions With... so I am very excited to have Landry Q. Walker as the latest guest.  Landry has been in the comics game for a while (that means he's as old as me) and has written a wide array of books such as  The Incredibles, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Little Gloomy.  However, it is his work on Supergirl: Cosmic Adventures in the 8th Grade and Danger Club that puts him on another level, if you ask me.

Recently, he was given the job of replacing Charles Soule on the Red Lanterns book and that's what lead us to this interview. When I heard the news, Eric and myself on the site were pretty pumped and sent Landry a little congrats on Twitter.  Like the cool guy he is, he responded and all seemed well and good in the world of comics.  Then what seemed like two days latter, DC announced that Red Lanterns was canceled.  What?!?!  How crazy is that?  I'm sure there is a story behind all this, but what I took from it was that Landry is a great guy and DC is an evil empire bent on crushing souls!

So, check out the interview below, follow Landry on Twitter (@LandryQWalker) and get any and all of his books on Amazon, Comixology or where ever you can get your grubby hands on them.

1. What are you working on now and/or is coming out soon?

Danger Club, Red Lanterns, both of which end in March, and TMNT: New Animated Adventures - my last issue of which comes out in a few days of me writing this. Otherwise, I'm doing a lot of writing on the Court of the Dead property for Sideshow Collectibles, developing a few new creator owned projects, and waiting to hear back on a few pitches on various other things that cannot yet be named.

2. It's so good to see Danger Club back, what can readers expect from the series going forward?

The ending! The series was always intended to end. Its' designed to be a very specific and finite examination of certain elements of mainstream comics and editorial practices. Within that ending we will see characters live, characters die, explosions, action, that sort of stuff - all amazingly rendered by my collaborators Eric Jones and Rusty Drake.

3. List these famous Walkers in order from best to worst:  Hershel Walker, Jimmie Walker, Sears Cook Walker, T-Bone Walker.
Jimmy Walker is categorized as "dyn-o-mite". No other Walker's need consideration.

4. Who is your favorite Lantern character and why?

I don't really follow characters. My opinions depends on who's writing/drawing them. 80's JLI Guy Gardner by Giffen and DeMatteis. Kyle Rayner by Ron Marz. John Stewart by Gerard Jones in Mosaic. GL Corp under Tomasi - brilliant stuff. Under another creator, maybe I don't care for the characters anymore. Depends.

5. How many chicken wings can you eat in one sitting?  Can you beat Justin Gray, the DC Comic Wing eating champ?

I'm giving this one to Justin Gray. I can usually make
it through about one half of one wing. Put me in a pizza making competition and I will destroy all who dare oppose me.

6. Favorite 80's band and why?
Operation Ivy. Need it be explained? Not if you lived in the Bay Area in the 80's.

I'd like to thank Landry so much for doing this interview and for making me a belated Operation Ivy fan.  Now I can't stop listening to them...damn you, Landry.  Like I said above, please support Landry, he's a great guy and deserves all the success he can get!

Here's an Operation Ivy video to check out as well:

See you all next time...

  1. Always glad to see Mosaic remembered. Here's hoping DC has room for Walker again at some point.
