*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Is it wrong for me to say that the Green Lantern Corps disappearing is the best thing to happen in a long time?  Yeah, I know blasphemy and all that, but when would Sinestro be able to systematically take out all of the other Lantern Corps', recreate the Manhunters and begin to fulfill his aspirations of bringing order to the Universe?  That's right, besides for the Sinestro Corps War, where he was brought down by our willful ring slingers, that shit wouldn't happen and I'm interested as hell to see where this story goes now that there's no one to stand in our fear monger's way.  It just comes off amazing to me, especially with Lobo in Sinestro's corner, taking out the other Lanterns.  It really feels like this book has the full package and I can't wait to see what happens next.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins on a dry barren planet..... where really, it makes Tatooine look like a vacation spot.  It's just terrible and it's inhabitants are dying of hunger and thirst, but luckily they have Saint Walker going about and dealing out mouth fulls of water to the most in need.  Well, they did have Saint Walker doing this until Lobo showed up and took his scrawny ass away.  This part is really funny to me because after Lobo begins telling the people of this planet how bad he's going to mess them up if they try and stop him from taking Saint Walker........ and believe me, it's pretty terrifying, a yellow ring comes down and inducts Lobo into the Sinestro Corps.

Which is awesome, but it's immediately over when Lobo cuts his finger off again and the ring flies away to find a new recruit.  Lobo then brings Saint Walker to Sinestro, which gets our story started........well, after Lyssa Drak has a very uncomfortable....... but sort of sexy interaction with our bounty hunter, the story really gets started.  It turns out that Sinestro wants Saint Walker to live so that he can use his powers of hope to heal and charge up the Sinestro Corps in their mission to bring order to the Universe.  Of course Saint Walker refuses........ even if there was a Green Lantern in the Universe so he could use his powers fully, he would still adamantly turn down the master of fear and that's where this book gets really interesting.  Sinestro walks Saint Walker over to his view screen and shows him War World coming upon the planet that Saint Walker was just trying to help and then we see him deploy his Manhunters!  Just when we think that Sinestro is going to do something unspeakable to the people of that world, we see that the Manhunters are carrying crates of food and water.  It's a great turn of events where instead of using fear, he instills hope in Saint Walker about the task that he's set out to do.

In the end, Saint Walker approves of what Sinestro is doing and right when we think that things are going to be okay and Sinestro is simply going to keep harassing Saint Walker to figure out how to use his powers without the participation of a Green Lantern, shit gets dark.  As the issue closes, we see that Sinestro has summoned his science team and he plans on poking, prodding and experimenting on Saint Walker to find out the full connection that he shares with his ring so that he may use it for his own purposes down the line.

That's it for this issue of Sinestro and even though not a lot went down in this, I still dug the continued set up of Sinestro controlling the Universe.  Yeah, I'm normally not a fan of a shit ton of setup, but something as big as what Sinestro has planned doesn't just get done in an issue.  I would have liked to see more Lobo in this book because I've really started digging this character once he began dipping his toes in the world of the Lanterns and now that we know his book is cancelled, I want to see as much of him as possible here before he's completely gone.  A lot of people have been complaining about Bunn killing off Lanterns in this crossover, but really it's the most interesting thing we've seen these characters do in awhile and I love the shake up.  I also love the fact that we're exploring what a Blue Lantern would do in a Universe devoid of the Lanterns they need to work in tandem with to use their full power.  Yeah, it's only Saint Walker filling the roster of this Corps, but we all love Saint Walker and seeing this dark shit happen to him, while yes it might be gruesome, it's also really interesting to me and I can't wait to see where this storyline goes.  To bring this whole book together, we have Ethan Van Sciver on art and really, who doesn't love Ethan Van Sciver's art?....... especially, when it's a Lantern book?  The whole book looks amazing, but where the art really shines for me is Sinestro's facial expressions and how much life this artist can pour into him.

Bits and Pieces:

We continue the setup with this issue for Sinestro's ultimate goal of policing the Universe and while this book is a little lax on the action, it does more than make up for it in just straight up "look at how determined and calculating Sinestro is".  It's just a pleasure to read and with great visuals all the way through, this is definitely a story arc that has my attention and it should have any other Lantern fan's attention too.

7.5/10

  1. I would have given it an 8.5 out of 10 due to the greatness of the story and artwork. My only complaint is that there wasn't enough action.

  2. I give it a 9.1, what a great issue! Lobo is such an interesting addition to the Sinestro Corps but it's only a matter of time before Lobo tries to take out Sinestro... and it will be glorious. Who is the scientist Yellow Lantern with all of the needles and vials coming out of his head???

    2. Actually it looks like an upgraded interrogation droid that interrogated Princess Leia in the first star wars movie XD

    3. It's interesting that Lyssa Dak seems to have taken an interest in Lobo. What do you make of this? Do you think she's looking to hire him in an attempt to usurp Sinestro? Or is she trying to sway him into joining the Sinestro Corps? The comments she makes me inclined to believe that it might be the former?

  3. Ha ha Needle Face, I like it! I feel for Saint Walker, things are not looking good with Nax, Needle Face, and Many-Faces ready to pick him apart LITERALLY.

  5. I want to see Sinestro take Lobo down a few notches. I really enjoyed this issue, but it seem to have gone by pretty quickly. I would rate it an 8 or as Jim would say 8.0.

  6. Saint Walker when are you gonna rebuild man? I hope in the next issue Saint Walker just pimp slaps them around as he can even without a green. He drain the light of a yellow ring if he wanted too. Just Bunn forgetting basic knowledge glad he didn't die though lets just hope that Bleez, Atrocitus, Dexx Starr and Arkillo don't meet Rankorrs fate.

    2. Yeah, I was confused when I saw Saint Walker in yellow-construct chains. He could get rid of that in a second. It also didn't make sense when he said he couldn't charge other rings or heal. Though he may have been lying to protect himself. Or it could just be bad writing. They can never seem to make up their mind what the Blues can and can't do.

    3. It is really bad writing. Without a green he can still use an aura, laser beam style projectile, drain a yellow and red ring and relight a dying sun. In and after the next issue he better get his pimp slap hand on and start cleaning house, rebuild his corps, find Kyle and team up with the greens to defeat Sinestro. The blues are OP even without a green. And um where is the white lantern corps DC? When is Kyle going to do something and not get thrown under the bus? When are the blues and Reds gonna get big again? Like come on.

  7. Mate I am sorry but why oh why would you want the rest of the lantern corps too be killed off? They are the reason the GL mythos is awesome. I would hate it if there was only 2 corps left plus Saint Walker, Atrocitus, Indigo 1 and Carrol Ferris. I really want a War of light 2 I have it all in my head. The Greens, a fully rebuilt Blue and Red Lantern Corps, Star Sapphire, Indigo Tribe and Larfleeze all take on the Sinestro Corps. Like come on DC make it happen. The writers could fill in the blanks but that is what should happen. I think that is what is going to happen since he is screwing with everybody else just don't over do the Lantern killing. 4 corps have been hit hard recently and it is annoying.

    1. I was really just trying to get people's attention with that one, I don't really want to see all the different Corps' be killed off, but I also don't mind seeing things get shook up a bit here. While folks might like Rankorr, I've never really been a fan and really thought that his death was the most interesting thing that has happened to him since Red Lanterns began. Like Rankorr, the rest of the Lanterns we've seen get killed haven't done anything in a long time and if this gets people's interest renewed in these characters that no one is playing with, then so be it....... let 'em die........ because as we all know, that doesn't mean that they can't be brought back later. Hell, look at Atrocitus, that mofo should be dead as hell.

    2. Atrcoitus should never die, never! None of the corps leader should because without them their corps will never be able be rebuild. I will have hope that the Green Lantern Mythos will be as awesome as it used to be with SEVEN strong corps instead of 2. Please DC listen to the fans give us more Lanterns and please stop throwing Larfleeze, The Blues, The Reds and Kyle Rayner under the bus.

    3. Hey, I agree. I love the Lanterns and I would love to see more of them in more places............ this whole conversation makes me remember how much I miss Red Lanterns and New Guardians

    4. I miss both so much. We barely get too see any corps that isn't yellow or green. I want Kyle to be big again. I want to dive into the GL Mythos more e.g. More blues, more Reds, more Larfleeze action and more star sapphire and Indigo action. GLNG had so much content and Lantern awesomeness in it I would rather of seen Sinestro go TBH. The GL universe is too big for 2 MAIN books as GLA is a limited series.

  8. Red lantern was good...until it wasnt but i REALLY loved new guardians i think you said it in the last podcast kyle forming a kind of UN of lanterns i always wanted that idea the story itself was alright but always wished they got back to a misfit team of lanterns. Sinestro is boss at planing but he's a bag of dicks at execution could have woed walker more then a 2 minute conversation

  9. I only just saw this reply, but I agree with everything! Yellow lanterns should be no more than an inconvenience to Saint Walker. Who really, really needs to get away, rescue Kyle and, like you said, clean house. And I would love to know what happend to the White Lantern corps. Preferably in their own title.
