I have really enjoyed Super Sons because I love Damian and Jon.  Sure, the Kid Amazo story wasn't the greatest, but now that it's over, things are about to get even better, right?  I mean, Tomasi has two awesome characters whose dads just happen to be the World's Finest to play with so it really should be a slam dunk.  So, how do my favorite little heroes deal with being grounded and moving to the big city?  Let's find out...

The issue starts with Tomasi showing us just how Damian and Jon are getting by after taking down Kid Amazo.  They are grounded and it's hilarious to see Damian deal with anyone telling him what to do.  Then there is Jon who just doesn't want to move to Metropolis like a little boy wouldn't.  However, with all that shit that went down in Hamilton County, I say get out when the getting is good!

The issue continues with Jon running away and while he doesn't want to admit it, he heads off to his friend's house...or cave.  Surprise!  He goes to the Batcave to talk to Damian.  That's when the fighting begins and the issue takes a turn down Been There, Done That avenue.

Seriously, after the prelude we got in Superman and then the first four issues of this series, it's about time for this fighting to simmer down a bit.  Sure, it will always be fun for Damian to throw shade Jon's way, but come on!

The two get physical and just when it looks like they are getting close to being friends, they start fighting again.  That is until Alfred shows up with dinner and Jon hides in T-Rex's butt.  No kidding!  The issue continues and eventually ends with Alfred telling the boys that Batman and Superman weren't always best friends and the two eventually arriving to say the same.  The end result?  The boys are allowed to go on adventures as long as they are with each other.  That's as long as Lois agrees!

If you have been reading this series, you can skip this one.  The only reason to read this at all is just to get more Damian and Jon and for Allison Borges art.  I't fantastic, but it's just a shame it is kind of put to waste here.  It's obvious this was a place holder issue to get things in line, but at least make a it a little bit less obvious next time.

Bits and Pieces:

If you want almost a whole issue of Damian and Jon fighting in the Batcave then your dreams have come true.  It's nothing we haven't seen before and getting this sort of thing this early in the series makes it all the worse.  Allison Borges' art is outstanding, but that's the only reason to get this one.

6.0/10

  1. you need to stop hatin' and start congratulatin' Batman when he pours a glass of water and tells Superman he could fuck him up

  2. That a-hole Damian is cute because millennials and gen z, Jason Todd voted to die because of snowflake baby boomers. GO FIGURE!
