The fight continues on Earth-X as the Freedom Fighters knock the Ratzi menace down one step at a time in order to awaken the Spirit of America himself, Uncle Sam.  So far...... that's all we've seen though.  Hopefully, with this issue we can do more than just see an individual instance of our heroes fighting back and get to some more meat of who these Freedom Fighters are..... and with that...... also get Uncle Sam back so that we can kick this series into high gear as our heroes take their country back.  Let's jump into this issue and see what's what.

While I'd like to say that the formula that we've seen up to this point has changed a whole lot...... I can't.  What I can say though is that the formula is finally paying off with some really awesome moments that actually feel like they're more important...... or more in line with actually getting something accomplished in our heroes' goals.  Yeah, you get your big "take down the Ratzi" demonstration, but with everything that is involved with it and what comes from it, it feels bigger than what we've seen up to this point and it's really satisfying.

As for our Freedom Fighters themselves, in the previous issue we learned a bit about Black Condor and Phantom Lady and it seemed like this issue wanted to feature Doll Woman and Human Bomb, but for whatever reason, right as they were getting to a bit of back story, the tone of the book wanted to go back to what it was doing earlier in the issue and the only things we really get regarding these characters is a single flashback panel.  Yeah, I understand that you don't want to show your hand right away....... or even at the fourth issue apparently, but it might be helpful to let the readers know who their heroes are.  With that though...... you get a whole lot of Uncle Sam and even though his return is pretty subdued for what it could have been, every encounter with this character is pretty damn awesome and I can't wait to see what he'll be up to as the series progresses.

All in all, the art continues to be beautiful and now that we finally feel like we're moving forward with our story of the Freedom Fighters with Uncle Sam's return, I feel like I can start getting excited for this series once again because even though I've been enjoying it........ it felt pretty slow.  This feels like a turning point to me and that seems to be enough to get me excited.  While there isn't much more than what we've seen leading up to this, there's just enough to make this one of my favorite issues in the series and I hope we get a lot more just like this.

Bits and Pieces:

The Freedom Fighters not only feel like they're picking up steam with their endeavor, it feels like Robert Venditti is picking up steam with his story here because while the main formula of what we've been getting is pretty much intact with this issue, there's just a bit more that gets me excited for what's to come.  Definitely a cool issue with excellent art that you won't want to miss.

8/10
