At the end of our previous issue of Robin, we saw Connor Hawke win the tournament of Lazarus, which ultimately meant that he would become a host for a demon that would destroy the world. Obviously, Damian Wayne couldn't let that happen and with the help of his newfound friends, they beat back the demon and made sure that the world could keep on spinning. This didn't make the architect of the end of the world, Mother Soul all that happy and it looked like she sent her Great-Grand-Son Damian back in time to witness a time before Ra's Al Ghul had discovered the Lazarus Pits. Let's jump into this issue and see if this is time and space or all of the mind.

For this issue of Robin, we're going to be getting a history lesson not only about Mother Soul and what brought her around to the demon side of things that just wants to see the world burn before it's reborn, but we're going to get a bit of a revised origin for Ra's Al Ghul and what his history is and while this is all of the mind and doesn't have Damian back in time with the problem that he might create a paradox..... so no real tension going on, there's still some enjoyment here with the new knowledge of Mother Soul, showing us the formation of the League of Assassins, League of Shadows and the League of Lazarus and how they all co-existed from the start, even though we've only recently learned about them.

That being said though, there is a lot of things that long-time Batman readers will have already known in this issue, while adding new elements to that..... like Ra's Al Ghul actually creating the Lazarus Pits instead of discovering them for the science vs. magic theme that this issue tries to give us but the history lesson that this gives us really doesn't serve the purpose that Mother Soul intended it to and we end this issue with the beginning of a battle that I can't wait to read about.

Bits and Pieces:

All in all, the art in this issue is amazing as always and the background on Mother Soul, not to mention how the rest of the Leagues surrounding Ra's Al Ghul were put together at the creation of Ra's modern persona was greatly appreciated, but with that, some of this felt like a bit of recap to things, while fudging some other things to make them make sense to the current story. That element is a bit disappointing but even with that this is still an enjoyable issue that keeps me intrigued to read more and I can't wait to see what happens after this issue's cliffhanger.
