It's time for another installment of the Fastest Man Alive, Wally West, The Flash, and now that we're out of our Dark Crisis tie-ins, it's time to get back to basics with this character and maybe just have a little fun while we explore what it means to be our hero with all the responsibilities that the takes on. Let's jump into this issue and see what's next for The Flash.

For this issue of The Flash we have a one-shot type story...... but one which hopefully will show up later down the line, but a story about WAM, Wrestling Across the Multiverse, and how it comes to Earth and it's up to Wally to try to save the day before these cosmic grapplers destroy Wally's city. It's a basic premise that bothered me a bit at first because of how goofy it was getting, even though I am a wrestling fan, but mostly it's because it's Wrestling Across the Multiverse and they seem to be based in our Universe alone..... or at least should be. It's a simple gripe that really doesn't mean anything but it still bothered me. Thankfully though, you have a fun issue where all the things that would make Wally have to be the Flash that saves the day and stops these intergalactic jobbers from destroying everything is put aside so that our hero can actually join the fun and cut loose, while also using the outside perspective of his tag-team partner, Omega Bam Man to figure out what's missing in his life, even though it seems so jam-packed with his day-to-day routine and responsibilities.

While you can definitely have fun with Wally doing some wrestling shenanigans with alien versions of Hulk Hogan, Mean Gene Okerlund, and Jesse The Body Ventura, there are little bits of this issue that distract me from fully committing to said fun because it seems that WAM chose this planet because they know it's about to face an apocalypse and this issue just coming out of a tie-in to the big Crisis going on feels off like it should have happened before our Dark Crisis tie-in. Also, you have the fact that everyone can watch this on their TVs like it's Rick and Morty out of nowhere and everyone is just content to just watch Wally wrestle aliens instead of heroes showing up for help since they don't know what's going on. Again, it's fun and maybe I shouldn't read too much into it and just relax but some aspects of this story just felt weird and threw me off........ But...... Still fun.

All in all, the art in this issue is fantastic and I love the character designs of the alien wrestlers, not to mention that it was cool throwing in Maul from WildCATS and the Faceless Hunter. As for the story, it's Wally becoming the tag-team champion of the Multiverse so it's going to be a lot of fun, it's just that what the story talks about with the idea of a Crisis coming and this book seemingly being beyond the Crisis feels weird and the lack of superhero backup during an alien invasion for all anyone knows seems weird, even though there's a funny part where Dick and Barbara are watching Wally wrestle on their TV and essentially say, "he's got it". It's a silly book, with fun things and if you don't take it too seriously you can have some fun because ultimately, this is Wally being Wally and I'm always here for that.

Bits and Pieces:

This issue is a fun little romp that parodies wrestling and because we have such a fun character like Wally West it works really well, not to mention gives you a little inside look at how our Fastest Man Alive is feeling. Does this feel like a particularly great first issue after our Dark Crisis tie-in?...... No, but it's still fun and the art is great.

  1. Anyone else notice one of the alien wrestlers was a Bloodlines villain?

  2. I was right. Bang was Glonth from the 1993 Bloodlines event. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/74267/cid/5337836/1993-SkyBox-DC-Comics-Bloodlines-76-Glonth
