Power Girl, Batman, Red Tornado and the new E2 Superman take on the Super Clones of Apokolips!


While I'm normally all for a Superman vs. Superman like battle, I'm left wondering........ didn't we just do this?  We just saw at the end of last issue that the Superman/Batman heroes discovered what looked like a living Superman, but if this solicit is correct then we've got a batch of Darkseid's Bizarros on our hands.  Don't worry I'm sure that Val-Zod can just touch them and be done with it..... That's what we got from his first battle with the Earth 2 Bizarro right?  Hopefully that's all it is and we can get on with the rest of the roster from this parallel world and see what their adventures are like instead of having a page here or there snippets that we've been getting since this series started.  Look at that Flash........ I want to see that go down.

Slow Burn Lobo

I know that this new sexy-time Lobo hasn't been a favorite of fanboys , but I'm taking the high road and giving it a couple issues before I give up on him.  I have to admit, I don't have a long history with Lobo and maybe that's why I didn't mind last month's series premier.  It wasn't as fun as I'd hoped but the mix of flashbacks and bounty hunter story had me intrigued.  That's a good thing because we get just that again this month.  Plus, with some new additions, the fun I was hoping for is beginning as well.

So some serious shit.  Anyway, we've recently seen in the pages of Constantine that our brash Brit accidentally killed his family when he invoked his first spell, so being on a world where that never happened..... Well that's going to have a lasting affect on our pseudo hero.  I can't wait to check this issue out.

I'm trying to get that nickname for Batgirl going....... so spread it around.  Even though I didn't like last issue and was given hell for it around the interwebs with terms like "Pig" and "Misogynistic", I will go into this issue with an open mind and I really hope I like it...... because I like Batgirl.  So let's check out what this month's issue has in store for us.

Avatar Wanted: Must Be Good With Machines and Have At Least One Year Experience

Last issue........ Not including the Annual because that doesn't really apply here, we saw Swamp Thing come across a new consciousness that is in it's beginning faze of joining the kingdom as "The Machines".  So yeah, we've got a robot coming to Swamp Thing and telling our hero that avatars aren't efficient enough to take care of their entire kingdom and even brings up the point that while Swamp Thing has an entire world of plants to deal with, he's still constantly fighting monsters, so yeah, I gotta give this argument to the Machine, Calculus.  Swamp Thing tells Calculus that he isn't interested and then consults Brother Jonah about how he should proceed.  We find out that whenever a new consciousness emerges it pretty much always means extinction, you know due to the wars that ensue due to the arrogance of youth.  So Brother Jonah tells Swamp Thing that he better kill them quick.  Even though Swamp Thing located their home base, he decided to let them live and see what happens, but that's a bad decision, because while he's having this wait and see attitude, Calculus and a bunch of other robots show up at The Grove and they intend to destroy it and Swamp Thing.  Let's see if our avatar of the Green can survive an onslaught of the Terminator variety.  Let's check it out.

Egghead Unbound

When you think back to the classic property that is Batman 66 it's hard not to immediately default back to thinking to the series biggest baddies including Caesar Romero's Joker, Frank Gorshin's Riddler, Burgess Meredith's Penguin, and the ever-changing Catwomen in Batman's life. What the classic William Dozier Batman series was even more well known for was the never ending cavalcade of celebrities that guest starred as the series villains. One of my favorites from the old  series was Egghead, expertly played by horror cinema legend Vincent Price. When I saw Egghead was the star of the latest Batman 66 arc, I was overjoyed. I went into this issue with high expectations and it delivered.

Meh...

I'll admit it, I have not been a fan of this book.  There are many reasons, but the main culprits are uninteresting characters and stories, awful dialogue and average artwork.  Unfortunately, all of these are in effect this month and that pretty much spells disaster for this book.  I agree with Mera when she wonders why Aquaman hangs out with this bunch.

The Mist

If you ask me, Greg Pak started this new Golden Age of Superman we are experiencing in the New 52.  His Action Comics run (and Batman/Superman to a lesser extent) has been great when left alone.  I am, of course, alluding to the Doomed story which was okay, but hijacked the Super books for it's own nefarious plans.  While Doomed still resonates through this book, Greg Pak is getting back to what made it great...Clark trying his best to save everyone and awesome supporting characters.  Lana Lang has been the star of Pak's run and adding Steel to the mix looks to make it even better.  What more could you ask for?  A horror story perhaps?

How To Make Friends and Be Influenced By TV

Last issue of Green Arrow we saw the start of the new creative team and their new direction for our Emerald Archer.  Our hero got back to basics as he took to the streets of Seattle taking out the low level crime and trying to get his name back out there to strike fear in the hearts of the yada yada yada.  But while Green Arrow was doing his thing we saw that a mysterious man named Mr. King is on the hunt for a young girl named Mia Dearden (Pre New 52 Speedy) and our hero found out that he has a contract out on his life and the person collecting that contract seems to be the New 52 debut and re-imagining of Felicity Smoak.  People are complaining that this is becoming too much like the show and if they mean that it's becoming more fun, then after reading last month's issue, I have to agree.  Let's check out what this issue has in store for us.

Margot Robbie Cast As Harley Quinn In The Upcoming Suicide Squad Movie

After only a couple of days since Jared Leto was talked about joining the cast of Suicide Squad as the Clown Prince of Crime, it seems that his main squeeze has gone a head and got herself finalized in the villain movie.  Margot Robbie who you might remember from The Wolf of Wall Street......  I'd name some others but it seems that this actress is relatively new to the movie scene and I haven't seen any other of her flicks, has been cast as the nutty moll of the Joker, Harley Quinn.  Casting seems to be in full effect for this Suicide Squad movie with names like Will Smith and Tom Hardy being approached to star, but I'm afraid that with this film's premiere date already scheduled for 2016, that it will be rushed and not get the care it deserves and we all know shoving big actors into a movie just for the sake of them being there is never a good idea.

It's kind of funny to me to think about everyone praising and shunning the idea of Jared Leto being the Joker when he isn't even cast yet, when the biggest thing for people to condemn this movie is how well the actress will play Harley Quinn.  She's a fan favorite and while she might be relatively new to the comic book scene, she definitely rivals the Joker in fandom.  So if Robbie can't pull off the zany antics and annoying Quinn voice for all the onlookers and meeting their expectations, then Warner Bros. might just as well call this a flop right off the bat, because it's Margot Robbie we're all going to be looking at.

The Talented Mr. Bliss

The Flash on CW is considered to be some of the best comic book television out there, on par with shows Arrow (from which the show is spun off) and Gotham over on Fox. Unfortunately, The Flash: Season Zero #5 doesn't continue that tradition from screen to page. If anything, Flash: Season Zero captures the spirit of the Silver Age Flash comics, without capturing the fun those stories had.

The Plane, The Plane

Last weeks issue of Sensation Comics was all about setting up this finale.  Michael Jelenic gave us the beginning of a nice little story mixing the wisdom Hippolyta gave her daughter with an epic battle between Wonder Woman and Cheetah. It's all tied together by a gift that may or may not be what it seemed at first.  While I was hoping this second part would be a bit more epic, it was a good story of a Mother and Daughter whose love is immortal.

Real Life Batman Uses Batmobile to Help Sick Children

This story has gotten some play on the internet already, but I wanted to put it up because it's so damn great.  Zac Mihajlovic is a real-life superhero who has tuned his love of all things Batman into a way to help those who need it the most.  The 29 year old Australian and his grandfather built a replica of the 1989 Batmobile (even using some original parts) and dresses as the Dark Knight for visits with children for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  Seriously, that is just pure awesomeness.  With all the crappy news I see everyday, it's so cool to see a story like this, so I'm giving Zac a huge Weird Science air high five right now.  following the break is a video about my new favorite superhero.

“Endgame,” part 2 – it’s a story arc so steeped in mystery, all we can tell you is the title!

Holy crap is all I can say after seeing this preview.  It's a fanboys dream come true...Batman vs Superman!  Greg Capullo's art is stunning, but it's Batman's preparation for the battle that steals the show.  Bruce must know that Kryptonite is so 1978 and really ups the ante here.  I'm sure that you're with me when I tell you that I can not wait to read this issue.

Home Is Where the Heart Is

I have really enjoyed this latest Tiny Titans mini series.  Following the cutest versions of my favorite characters travel the DC Universe looking for their Treehouse and/or a suitable replacement has been so much fun.  Art Baltazar and Franco do such a great job of making a truly "all-ages" comic that anyone and everyone should read and enjoy.  This finale is no exception with lots of inside jokes, awesome characters and a setup for a new series that I want right now.

DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 11/8/14
