Twenty-five years ago, a secret government organization kidnapped children and trained them to be chaos agents who went on to foment unrest and execute enemies of the state around the world. When these cold and unfeeling creations proved too difficult to control, the powers that be exterminated their kill squad with extreme prejudice.
Too bad it didn’t work.
Now a rogue band of the worst monsters the world has ever known is cutting a swath of terror across the United States, threatening not just a disruption of the peace but to expose secrets their handlers never wanted to come to light. The only way to stop them is to call back the only man who ever walked away from them. His code name is Abel, and he’s not afraid of getting his hands bloody.
This new eight-issue miniseries from writer Justin Jordan (The Legacy of Luther Strode) and artist Ibrahim Moustafa (High Crimes) features the action of the Jason Bourne movies with the gruesome horror of classic grindhouse!

“The Last Testament of the First Lantern”! Before the Green Lantern Corps, the Guardians of the Universe embedded a power battery inside a man, imbuing him with unimaginable power. Eventually fearing him, they stole that power back for their own control, but now Volthoom, the First Lantern, has returned with a plan to force Jessica and Simon to help him regain his lost godhood.

Even though I enjoyed getting that Jessica Cruz issue and then the Simon Baz heavy Batman team-up issue, I'm happy as hell to get back to where we left things since Rami has now been taking over by Volthoom.  It took all the Corps' to take down the First Lantern originally, I can't wait to see how two rookies handle the situation.

Desperate to find his prey, the techno-villain posing as Vic Stone’s father conspires with the Lord of Rats, a Detroit crime lord who agrees to hunt down Cyborg in exchange for OTAC transforming his rodent drug distribution force into a cybernetic rat army.

It's crazy to me that we're adding another aspect to this book because we've been dealing with Anomaly from day one, but more and more things keep getting thrown into this book that it feels kind of silly.

Hate is coming to Blüdhaven, and it will tear Nightwing’s world apart! Try and keep up as Dick Grayson spans the globe to piece together clues and uncover the mystery of who wants Nightwing dead!

Damn, just when Nightwing went and found himself a nice girl.  Wasn't all that hip on DeFacer when we first met her at the beginning of the Bludhaven arc, but after what we saw as the cliffhanger to the last issue.......... I really hope she's alright.

“I AM BANE” part three! Bane broke the bat before, but it wasn’t enough—now he’s going to break everyone else! Bane is coming, and no one is safe!

For such an anticipated issue, that solicit is pretty lame.  Either Mr. DC wrote it while hurrying to get out of the office on a Friday or Tom King's story is just so damn strong, it ain't got time for a long ass solicit.  I'm going to go with both!

When Shade took over Megan’s body, Megan had to go somewhere—and that she did. The displaced Earthling flew across the galaxy and back, and now that she’s home, Megan is pissed! It’s alien invader versus teenage bully in the climactic conclusion of our first arc!

Considering Doom Patrol's screwed-up schedule, I'd say this is my favorite title coming out of Young Animal. And I can't wait to see how the first arc ends! If you're of a similar bent, check out some preview pages below.

Jim, Eric, Reggie and the rest of the Weird Science Crew are back this week to bring the pain...I mean this week's DC Comic books.  They also hand out life lessons, spin yarns about the good old days when bread was made of slate and generally mess around and spit rhymes and nonsense.  Enjoy!

Art by: Pepe Larraz, Dono Sanchez-Almara and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2017
Review by: Josh Vermillion

The team is being forced to rely on Deadpool to get them out of their situation, so I’m expecting a whole lot of fun from this issue. I’ve been really happy with the story Gerry Duggan has been writing thus far, so I’m going into this issue fully expecting him to continue with the crazy, action-packed fun. Let’s take a look-see, shall we?

Written by: James Robinson
Art by: Vanesa Del Rey, Jordie Bellaire and Cory Petit
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2017
Review by: Josh Vermillion

After an issue last month that was packed full of story, I’m not entirely sure where we’re heading with the Scarlet Witch. This is seemingly the final issue in the series, so let’s see how James Robinson ends his run and where he leaves Wanda for the the future.

Infamous Iron Man #5 - Marvel Monday

Victor Von Brood

Written by: Brian Michael Bendis
Art by: Alex Maleev, Matt Hollingsworth and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2017
Review by: Josh Vermillion

This issue has truly been a roller coaster ride. Up on issues 1 and 3, down on 2 and 4. The concept still intrigues the hell out of me, but I want to find out more about Victor Von Doom than what Bendis has been giving us. My hope heading into this issue was that it would continue the trend and be as good as the other odd numbered issues. Let’s check it out and see if that happened.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #14

Marvel Comics
Release Date: February 23, 2017
Cover Price: $3.99

Spider-Man’s Itsy Bitsy Breakdown

How do you make a comic featuring Spider-Man and Deadpool, two of Marvel’s biggest heroes, even more appealing?  Why throw one of the fan favorite X-Men into the mix why don’t you! That’s right Nightcrawler makes an appearance in this issue in an attempt to talk some sense into an out of control Spider-Man, who even Deadpool is having trouble controlling lately. Yes, that is typed correctly. So let’s stop all this introduction nonsense and see what the red and blue trio are up to … swing on inside and find out.

The Prowler #5 Review

The Prowler #5

Writer: Sean Ryan
Art Team: Jamal Campbell & Javier Saltares
Marvel Comics
Release Date: February 23, 2017
Cover Price: $3.99

Prowler starring as Bobby Ewing

The Prowler, as a title coming out of the latest iteration of Marvel Now!, genuinely surprised me as a book worth paying attention to after its first two issues.  However I have a feeling its tie-in status, to the Clone Conspiracy event, has dragged it down from progressing at a rate to hold readers interest, possibly killing the title before Sean Ryan even had a fair shot at making it work as a solo book. What has been consistent however is some gorgeous art from the team of Jamal Campbell and Javier Saltares making this a title at least worth flipping through for the eye candy. Well let’s see if Prowler can start to dig out of this rut in issue five and what Clone Conspiracy related surprises we have in store shall we?

The Amazing Spider-Man #24 Review

The Amazing Spider-Man #24

Writer: Dan Slott & Christos Gage
Art Team: Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, Jason Keith
Marvel Comics
Release Date: February 24, 2017
Cover Price: $3.99

The Many Faces of Scarlet Spider

I was not someone that enjoyed the very non-ending to the Clone Conspiracy event just one week ago.  When I pick up an issue marked number five of five I kind of expect a story to be resolved and not left hanging for future tie-in issues to take care of.  However that is the exact boat were left stranded in after latest let down of a conclusion, so with the Amazing Spider-Man title still carrying a tie-in tag, let’s see if it helps pick up the pieces of my broken comic book loving heart.  Swing on inside.

Sun Bakery #1 Review

Half Baked

Writer: Corey Lewis
Artist: Corey Lewis
Publisher: Image Comics
Release Date: February 22, 2017
Cover Price: $4.99
Review by: Repairman Jack

I knew nothing about Sun Bakery before coming across it. I saw the cover and the first couple pages and got pretty interested fast as I’ve long been a fan of Japanese Manga and the idea of anthology magazines or magazines encompassing multiple stories each week or month. This book gave me the impression that this was from a creative with the same ideals in mind when this book came to mind. So did the book live up to this excitement and did I enjoy it overall? Check out after the jump to see my thoughts.

The Old Guard #1 Review

Characters Wanted

Writer: Greg RuckaArtist: Leandro FernandezPublisher: Image ComicsRelease Date: February 22, 2017Cover Price: $3.99Review by: Repairman Jack

I come into Old Guard only having read Rucka’s Wonder Woman before this. Although I’ve liked it quite a bit I feel it has struggled to give any answers or worthwhile conclusions to any conflicts that have arisen. With that being said I come into Old Guard being relatively interested by the synopsis and curious if Rucka can get away from my minor complaints from his other work. So check out after the jump to see just what I thought of Greg Rucka and his story about kickass immortal soldiers.

Check out Ryan's podcast, Columbus Comics Corner here. This miniseries has been one of my favorite comics being released in the last few months. The off the wall storytelling and pop art are great together. We had to wait for a couple scheduling hiccups. So my anticipation continued to grow for the finale to this series. It’s here now, so let’s dive into this funky world.

Harbinger Renegade #4 Review

Be all you can be...in the Renegades!

Writer: Rafer Roberts Prologue Artist: Juan Jose Ryp

Penciler: Darick Robertson
Inker: Richard Clark
Colorist: Brian Reber
Letterer: Dave Lanphear Cover Artist: Dave Johnson Cover Price: $3.99

I really enjoy Valiant’s approach to its take on superheroes. The universe is well diverse and the characters are relatable. While there’s some recommended prior reading for this series to see how they’ve gotten here. You can still hop into this title and have a grasp on what’s taking place. As they give you a run down at the start of each issue of prior events. If you’re looking to change things up outside your more commercial superhero teams, Harbinger Renegade is worth giving a chance. So let's get into the issue.

DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 2/22/17

I Need a Late Pass

I did it again! Last week was packed full of comicky goodness and day job badness, and then I went away this past weekend, so Best Covers of the Week was unfortunately squeezed out of my schedule. But I'm sure the covers were all terrible last week, right? Let's get back in the saddle with the top five DC Comics covers for this week!
