Taking The War To Your Front Door

Last issue of Green Lantern was the Green Lantern/Red Lantern flip book.  So it was mostly about what to do with the newly raging Supergirl.  This issue we're back on track, and prepping for the war the shape shifting race the Durlans started when they infiltrated Mogo, shape shifted into Hal Jordan and sent out an open comm to the universe saying pretty much "Kneel Before Zod", but with the Green Lantern Corps instead of Zod.  So we have a fearful universe that knows every time the Corps. uses their rings they're killing existence.  So let's see if they can get the people back on their side, and stop all the factions that have banded together to take down the Corps.

Explain It!:

The issue begins back on Earth we're Hal has taken a minute out of his pressing schedule to tell his brother he won't be around for awhile, and war is brewing in the universe.  During this scene we get something I've been waiting for for a long time.  The return of Simon Baz.  While it's not the return I was hoping for, it was still nice to see him.  Hal says Simon is allowed to stay on Earth now that it's a Red Lantern sector, and his job is to check in on Hal's family and keep them safe.  The end.  Bah, I miss Simon Baz!  How the hell doesn't he have his own book yet?  We just take Hal and move him over with Jon Stewart in Corps, and we're perfect.  GL, and Corps. are almost the same book now anyway.  Give me Simon!

Back on Mogo, Hal calls a meeting of Salaak, Kilowog, and Two-Six (one of the new recruits), because he feels he needs people to back him up as leader and help him make the right decisions.  Salaak for his knowledge, Kilowog for his respect, and Two-Six for her analytical mind and morality.  Okay meeting adjourned.  On with the war.  One of the Lanterns learned that there is a factory on the planet Gwottle that is assembling light drainers like Relic had.  So it's time to jump on the offensive and take this factory down before this new weapon can be sent out into the universe.  The only good bug is a dead bug.  Sorry this whole thing just makes me think of Starship Troopers.  Well this and most things, but that's another story.

So on Gwottle we find out that the short lived Star Sapphire Nol-Anj is the one who has brought all these different clans together to fight the Corps., and set up shop on Gwottle to use it's people to create these light drainers.  Do you remember how effective Relic's were?  Well hopefully that's a yes, well these are better.  If these get out it's gonna be a bad day to be a ring slinger.  But our heroes arrive and there's a tussle, but the good guys win in the end.  Well kind of.  See the people of Gwottle aren't being used, they volunteered, because no one wants to live under the supposed tyranny of the Corps.  So that's a blow to the gut for Hal, so instead of taking all the people to be imprisoned, he's only taking the clan members Nol-Anj sent.  You know trying to make good relations by leaving the Gwottles.... Gwottlites?  The people of Gwottle alone, and unharmed.  At least they destroyed the light draining weapons.

In the end we find out that the unaccounted for Durlan that infiltrated Mogo has been hiding out in the wilderness of Mogo.  Like I said they are a race of shape shifters, and he's been hiding out as a deer for awhile.  The Durlan turns back into his normal form, and looks for a case he hid.  But for those of who read Green Lantern Corps. last month you'll know that the Durlans can only shape shift with this blue liquid, and this Durlan just realized he's run out.  So see you next time when we continue the The Universe Vs. The Corps.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

Green Lantern since Hal has taken over has had it's moments of boredom, and this seems to balance between the fun we're used to in a GL book and the boredom we've had in Hal trying to find the leader inside of him.  We're still dealing with Hal being unsure of himself as a leader, but then we jump right into the upcoming war, that seems to be inevitable at this point.  So this issue's a mixed bag, but luckily the fun far exceeds the boring, and all us Green Lantern fans we have something to be excited about.  So go check out the book, and see the Hal take the offensive against the oncoming storm.

6.8/10

  1. Simon Baz in his own book over Hal Jordan?!? WTF are you thinking?

  2. I'm thinking that there's very little difference between GL and GL Corps. So why not just make it one book so we can use the GL title to explore Simon's character, and see some GL action on Earth.

  3. I'm thinking that Simon Baz for right now can be a great addition to Red Lanterns. Then eventually he can get his own book.

  4. I don't know what it is about him that I like so much. I just want to see this character grow. Red Lanterns would be a great place for him since the Red Lanterns have taken over sector 2814, just as long as we get to keep him a GL. Also Charles Soule is the writer at DC I trust the most to feed my addiction.
