*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

We're finally here, the war to end all wars and with it the fate of Earth 2.  We've been traveling back and forth between this world and our day to day lives for awhile now, watching with bated breath as our heroes failed time and again but hopefully with this final issue we'll be able to see our heroes....... or Wonders if you prefer, we'll be able to see if they can overcome this gigantic threat and take their world back............ But since we've already seen that this world is a great big bag of doomed, I guess we'll see who all get out with their lives and how our Wonders will move on from this and become a Society in June.  In the last issue we saw our heroes put out their best effort in taking Darkseid down as the survivors of Earth 2 tried to escape their planet but as the issue closed it looked like all was lost, with the exception of Green Lantern; who has tapped into the Green throughout the Multiverse.  Let's see if Alan Scott can be the savior that Earth 2 needs before Darkseid goes and curb stomps everyone in his path.  Let's check out this final issue.

Explain It!:

Our finale begins with Green Lantern taking on Darkseid in what I hoped last issue would be the final time and we'd all get a happy ending to our tale of woe that's we've been reading........ but sadly, Green Lantern falls like the rest of the Wonders of Earth-2 and Darkseid goes on to try and finish off all the survivors.  It's at this point that Green Lantern begins to die and somehow the power that comes off of him brings the rest of the Wonders back from unconsciousness....... and they straight up leave Green Lantern to his death.  Jerks.  Yeah, they have bigger fish to fry and all that but to just leave Alan for dead seems like a dickly move.  It's a good thing that even though Alan Scott is dying here, Green Lantern will live on.  Yeah, it seems that the only way for Alan to truly harness the powers of the Avatars and the Green throughout the Multiverse is to let his human side go quietly into that goodnight and with his love: Sam Zhou as his chaperon, Alan Scott says goodbye to himself and finally becomes the Green Lantern.

Throughout the majority of this issue it's pretty much heroes punching and heat visioning things as they try to fight back the forces of Apokolips so the people of Earth 2 can escape.  It also includes things like Dick Grayson magically being okay here after seeing his escape ship explode last issue......... Yeah, Batman was with him when it happened and we saw that Batman was okay later on but this Dick Grayson isn't Batman.  Yolanda Montez makes her return as a ordinary human trying to escape her world's fate and it comes off as an odd choice to be in this comic........ Really, it's just a bunch of "Remember this character?  They might be in Earth 2: Society in June!"  Eventually a handful of heroes go up against Darkseid for a final stand as Green Lantern focuses his energy to transport the last of the survivors to Terry Sloan's ship.

In the end, we see our heroes going up against Darkseid and vanish in the aftermath of an omega beam and for some reason during this, we only see Yolanda Montez....... It's just odd.  So Darkseid has won and Earth 2 gets devoured by Apokolips, while the space Oracle watches the world's end and the rest of our heroes prepare to go to light speed to escape their doom........ and I'm left wondering how jumping to light speed equates to our heroes winding up on another world.......... Like, I really thought that at the end of this they'd be jumping through the bleed and ending up in another Universe but that's not what it looks like here.

That's it for Earth 2: World's End and as a whole this series has been a real let down.  Yes, the last few issues of this series have been really strong but it's too bad that it didn't keep that up here.  Even with this being an over sized issue, a lot of things were lost due to some of the art and after reading it, I'm not sure that it actually needed to be over sized and the finale could have told this story just fine without having pages simply showing us that Dick Grayson and Yolanda Montez were still around.  While I've loved the art the last couple of issues, it seems that just like the story; it's underwhelming here.  I wish I could say that this has been a fun run, but I'm happy it's over.......... but not to be a complete Negative Nancy, I still look forward to all the possibilities that Earth 2: Society could have in store for us in June.

Bits and Pieces:

Like the majority of this series, this ending is very lackluster.  It also feels like it's gone against a lot of the things that we've been told were going to happen with these characters in Futures End.  Now that could be for a reason and we'll get the answers to that in Earth 2: Society but with this being an over sized finale I just don't understand why the art and the story weren't as strong as they've been the past couple of weeks and I just find myself being disappointed.

5.5/10

  1. LOL at Dick Grayson running around like part of the superhero team... It's like when someone brings a new character to a D&D game, and all the other characters just go, oh he's a PC, he's cool.

Too many characters running around. I lost track of who was where doing what, and by the end I have no idea why some are on the ships and some are trapped on Earth. How'd Power Girl get away, for example?

Green Lantern's internal narration just sounds random sometimes. "Every decision we make spawns a new world." Well, no, this is a series about parallel worlds and they don't work that way here, plus what does that have to do with anything? "Our strongest heroes struggle to stand alone." Well, no, look right there, three of them in that panel all standing up together. Go home, you're drunk.

I do like the visual of Apokolips eating the planet.

    1. Huge props for the D&D reference!
I did laugh at the Green Lantern stuff...it was a bit out there at points and yes, he may have been really drunk. Maybe Earth 2 Society will start with him waking up with a huge hangover wondering where the hell he is...I know that's happened to Eric one to many times!

  3. With all the power ups Scott has gotten, it looks really bad when he gets curb stomped. With him now having the full power of the multiverse green he should now be as powerful if not stronger than superman, but unless the writer of earth 2:society gives him an author saving throw then Alan will remain theost powerful C list hero of the DC Universe

    1. They are probably going to cut that multiversal green shiz when society starts sadly...but it was still cool to see him harness it all :)
