An Injustice Indeed

I really enjoyed last week's Injustice not only because it was a Harley issue, but because it was a good Harley issue.  I love Harley in this book, but up until last week, Brian Buccellato didn't seem to have a grip on what made her so great in this Universe...her heart.  Well, he does now.  Harley was so great last issue that even if it felt like a side story, I was having too much fun to care,  The issue ended with Harley, Billy Batson and Hippolyta using a Mother Box to end up...well, we didn't find that out. Of course, there is still the matter of Poseidon trying to turn Paradise Island into just another part of the surrounding ocean.  That's where we pick up this week, but does that make a good issue?  Let's find out...

Like I said, the issue opens with Poseidon making Themyscira into a swimming pool.  While Wonder Woman and Superman get thrown around, most of Team Batman are trying to save the Amazons. We also get a heavy dose of Artemis who may say that she is trying to protect them, but her plan is more 300 then anything else.  As everyone retreats to safety, Batwoman, Artemis and her troops continue to tow the line.

Of course, Batman has a plan, but it looks like the Dark Knight won't be able to save everyone.  As the water begins to overtake Batwoman and the rest, a red blur zigs-zags in and out of them and viola...they are on dry land.  Yep, the Flash has put the war on hold to do the right thing.

While that was really cool, it still looks like the water may still overtake the island...that is until Zeus shows up and tells his brother to stop all his nonsense.  He might have a problem with Poseidon, but his real issue is with Superman.  Superman doesn't help matters when he tries to punch Zeus and ends up getting bitch slapped by the All-Father himself.

While this is going on, Batman gets a call from Harley and I'm guessing she gives him the 411 because he looks shocked as hell.  He heads over to the party going on and  drops the bomb...Harley has a Mother Box.  The issue ends with Superman flying away, Wonder Woman saying it's over and this reviewer pretty upset about this issue.

Yep, I was not a fan of this week's Injustice.  There just wasn't enough story here for me to recommend it.  The flooding just felt like something that needed to be resolved and when it was, it didn't make a whole lot of sense or matter much to the overall story.  Plus, having Zeus show up and yell at Poseidon for getting involved felt odd since Zeus has done the same...and continues to here.  I hope we find out who the mystery character is who's pulling Ares strings soon (Darkseid?) because this book needs something to pick it up before the end of Year Four.

I did enjoy Bruno Redondo's art, but up until the end, he really doesn't get a lot to play with.  There is just so much excitement you can squeeze out of Amazonian soldiers standing in rank.

Bits and Pieces:

After a fun diversion last week, we get a not so fun filler issue this week.  It's all setup for the reveal of the big bad that's been controlling Ares and I hope I care more about that then anything in this issue.  I can't even recommend this to fans reading this series as it would be easy to skip this week and not miss much of anything.

4.5/10

  1. Trinity watching out and lying close to each other? That panel is so sweet! (Though it's because they are all electrically shocked by Zeus. Anyway, I'm gonna scream for that. )
In some way, they still have the same goal: protect mankind. They just view humanity differently.
But how could Harley signal Batman? Is the fourth wall broken again or the mother box so versatile that it can act as an omni-phone? CAN I GET ONE?!
Zeus has shown so much patience to Superman that I'm starting to wonder if the kryptonian was his secret child. . .
Well, team up with your enemy, or your enemy's enemy, and have fun~

  2. Darkseid is coming! Thinking about that since the last post, and Darkseid is in the Injustice game - so no real spoiler there.

  5. Ever since the Injustice comics started I wished that the New Gods would make an appearance. With the Year of Gods I thought my wishes had become reality. However I feel that they squandered that potential. There's only like what 3 issues left and I think adding the New Gods into the mix (if they are that is) at this point is too late. They should have been added in halfway through the arc. I'm hoping that the ending will be something crazy amazing making me eat my words but I just feel disappointed overall. Have you guys had these thoughts?

    1. I feel the same way. The Year of the Gods has been a disappointment and I agree about the New Gods showing up now. They have been hinting at Darkseid showing up for a while and each issue he isn't in feels like wasted time.

    2. I am looking forward to the Injustice Year Four Annual because Tom taylor is coming back to write it...though it looks like there will be a 2 month layoff between Year Four and Five.
