DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 4/12/17

Better Than All the Rest (This Week)

Boy, there's a lot of news coming out of DC Comics since WonderCon a couple of weeks ago! New events, new creative teams, new directions...but you know what I haven't heard a lot of news about? The covers! Specifically: will the comics continue to have them? Because if comic books stop having covers, then I'm out of a job! Looks like I'm safe for this week, so let's take a look at five of the very best comic book covers that came out from DC Comics on Wednesday!

Flash #20 variant
Howard Porter
Here we have a study in great cover composition. The reflective glasses and FLASH logo make striking green bands across an otherwise purple background, set off with that red Flash at the right. Nicely balanced!

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #9
Yanick Panquette and Nathan Fairbairn
Okay, I don't normally critique a cover that I am also praising, but I think this would have worked better if the image were straightened. That said, it's pretty great, a similar exercise in balance with that awesome Panquette line work.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #18
Mikel Janin
It's the washed-out Hal Jordan in the foreground that really punctuates this stark image. The floating figures form a ring around the disheveled lantern, helping to obscure it and not make it seem like this comic book has a giant hole in it.

Titans #10 variant
Nick Bradshaw and Alex Sinclair
Here's an image that threatens to charge right off the page and into your face! It's a little busy, but it's meant to be chaotic so it works. Plus, tooling around with the series logo is always going to grab my attention.

Wonder Woman #20
Bilquis Evely and Romulo Fajardo Jr.
This Bilquis Evely, she is something else, I tell you what. I first cottoned to her work on that terrible Sugar & Spike series (her art being its only saving grace) and I've kept my peepers peeled ever since. This is a unique talent, folks, and this great cover doesn't even scratch the surface. I want to see a lot more from Ms. Evely (like an exclusive contract with DC Comics!)
