Super Sons has been one of my go to fun books since it came out.  The awesome interactions between Damian and Jon had me hooked immediately and the art has been outstanding.  It's a good thing, because I'm not sure how I feel about the "Kid Amazo" story as a whole.  My main gripe is the mystery around Reggie's powers.  It feels like it's all being forced on us without enough explanation and as I say, "Not getting pertinent information does not a good mystery make."  Actually, I don't talk like that, but I hope you get my point.  On top of all that, the Damian/Jon interactions have gotten a little stale and I need something new here.  Does this issue give me what I want to keep this book among my favorites?  Let's find out...
The issue starts by showing the reader that Damian and Jon's disappearance has not gone unnoticed by those that love them.  It also does a good job of showing why Bats and Supes won't be showing up to save the day...you know, Justice League business.

It's then off to "elsewhere" where we see Superboy and Robin hanging upside down by Kid Amazo.  The blood rushing to their heads doesn't stop the trash talk and while I said I was a bit down with it last issue, this actually feels a little fresher.

We then go through a whole bunch of pages catching the reader up with what's been going on.  Kid Amazo gives us some information as a villain monologue and even then, I still can't quite get a grip on how the Amazo Armor is allowing Reggie to do what he's doing.  It's funny, though, because I am enjoying the book enough to not have to know 100%.

What I do love is Lex Luthor/Superman and we get him and he is pissed.  He wants the Armor back and that allows Damian and Jon to escape and save Reggie's family.  Tomasi tries to make Reggie a little too sympathetic by the end, but the kid wanted to kill the Justice League and take over the world.  Still, when Sara uses her powers to rip the Armor off of him, I did feel a little bad for the ginger villain.

The issue ends with Lex promising to make Sara's family super again and the boys getting the heck out of dodge and back to Hamilton County.  That's where they have some explaining to do to a certain mother and a butler.

This was a nice ending to the Kid Amazo story, but it did feel a little rushed.  It's odd saying that since a large part of it was catch up, but once Lex shows up it's off to the races.

The best part of this issue is again the art.  Jorge Jimenez does such a great job with these characters and I might even go so far as saying that the art is almost worth the price of admission alone.

Bits and Pieces:

I haven't been a huge fan of the Kid Amazo story, but the interactions of Jon and Damian have kept me entertained.  This ending was a little rushed, but again, I liked the interactions and the art.  Fans of this book will no doubt like this, but I am going to need more going forward.

7.0/10

  1. Do you get the same vibes from Kid Amazo? He is kind of a psychotic version of Danny Chase without glasses. The third best most hated Teen Titan after Terra and Jason Robin. Miss him as Phantasm.

  2. Been loving supersons, right from the start.. the arguments between the boys might be getting kinda old but still love this story arc nonetheless.. actually anything with damian and jon together, i'm in!! They're just so freakin adorable, man!! Hahaha!! This is a good issue for me with both alfred and lois angry at the end, it just cracked me up.. not to mention accompanied with good art.. looking forward to their team ups in the future especially when damian introduces jon to the teen titans as teased in the solicits.. that will be fun!!
