*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Shea Fontana's Heart of the Amazon arc comes to a close with this issue and while I was all about her coming on this book after Greg Rucka's character overhaul of Wonder Woman, this arc hasn't really done too much to get me excited for the Wonder Woman book.  It's been a bit hokey in its delivery of letting us know that the power of the gods runs through Diana's veins and that power can be exploited by others.  Hopefully, everything turns around with this final issue because I want there to be some kind of redemption to this arc that hasn't really grabbed me the way that I hoped it would.  Let's jump into this issue and see what Hamilton Revere has in store for our hero now that she's turned herself over to him with the idea that her DNA may save countless people of disease and sickness.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with no-face Sasha Bordeaux (the art isn't that great for Sasha) telling Steve and Etta that General Thomas is keeping them there because whoever is above General Thomas has ordered it, keeping up with the conspiracy about Hamilton Revere claiming that he was "The Government" from last issue, but Sasha lets our supporting cast out to go to Wonder Woman's aid and to my surprise, she may actually need the backup.

Over at Hamilton Revere's compound, we find out that he's tried to synthetically create Wonder Woman's DNA, but it's missing the god aspect of it that that goes in line with the Wonder Woman's patrons bestowing power upon her, but even though that's the case, somehow the soldiers that are working for Revere, who were specifically chosen to become his "Wonder" soldiers have powers and give Diana a hell of a fight, when she turns Revere down after she finds out that creating "Wonder" soldiers is his only goal and not curing the sick around the world.

In the end, the "Wonder" soldiers overpower our hero, but thankfully, like I said earlier, Etta and Steve have come as backup and the fight resumes all over again, where our heroes get the upper hand, Wonder Woman uses the Perfect to cast the DNA lies out of the soldiers, turning them back to normal and while Hamilton Revere is taken by some people who used to work for him so that he can cure them of their problems, it's pretty much all's well that ends well with our hero...... especially, since Etta blew up Hamiton Revere's compound and all the secrets of Wonder Woman's DNA with it.

That's it for this issue of Wonder Woman and where I hoped that this issue would come out of nowhere and "wow" me, it was instead just like the rest of the arc, which was pretty underwhelming in the long run.  The whole "Wonder" soldier aspect to this story didn't make sense because we established that Revere couldn't duplicate Diana's blood, but yet, there were all the soldiers overpowering our hero and even flying.  Nothing really added up in this arc and I left this scratching my head about what was actually going on and some of that may have been from the art too because where I'm normally a fan of David Messina's work, here it seems like things were rushed and unfinished.  All in all, this was not the arc that I hoped it to be and because of that, James Robinson has to pull off a hell of a start when he takes over the book next issue because right now all I want is some good Wonder Woman stories.

Bits and Pieces:

Heart of the Amazon concludes with this issue and I'm left wondering what actually went down in not only this issue, but this arc in general because nothing really makes sense by the end.  The art seemed rushed at times and I'm just left wanting some decent Wonder Woman stories coming forward because I certainly didn't get one here.

4.9/10

  1. I assumed Crawford did take Diana's blood for 'medical' reasons, and that's how they made the wonder soldiers?
This was definitely Fontana's best issue, while part 3 & 4 were a bit drawn out.

    1. I would assume that too, but then they wouldn't need Diana so it feels off when Revere says they need her because the synthesized dna didn't work

  2. Yeah, this issue was way too wordy and underwhelming... makes me miss Diana sitting ON HER BUTT...

  3. While I found this arc to be just OK, I found this wrap-up issue to be rather enjoyable. It was interesting to see Diana lose her naivete' and her trust in humans. It was also interesting to see the villains making a valid point as to why Diana should work with them. Add in some good comic book action and an ending that suggests that maybe we haven't seen the last of Hamilton Revere and it was a good time. Not perfect though. The art wasn't that great and the overall arc wasn't that great, but this issue gets a 6.5 for me.
