The Will To Use It!

Alright so now that the Third Army has been defeated, and the First Lantern has been vanquished, and Relic has been put on ice, we get a single issue that stands by itself!  It's an early Thanksgiving miracle!  So all that stuff is done let's see how the Green Lantern title can completely double for the Green Lantern Corps. title.  Seriously now that Hal is the leader of the Corps., you could completely switch the titles around and no one would be able to tell the difference.  So let's quit bitching, and check it out.

Explain It!:

So after we've gone through all these big bads, and the loss of Oa, the Corps. are seriously dwindled.  So of course let's make it a little more dramatic.  A few of the senior members are now refusing to wield their rings, due to the drain of the emotional spectrum.  Which does make sense, but the members still want to police their section without the rings.  I'm wondering how Venditti is going to make this happen?  Paint a Lantern symbol on a star ship, and load up on guns?  Just doesn't seem right, hopefully I'm far off base.  So back to the story.  The new plan for the Green Lantern Corps. is to police the universe against people using the emotional spectrum.  So many things wrong with this.  But even so, this line of thinking brings us to the actual story.

Back in issue #22 of Green Lantern during the Larfleeze invasion of Oa, Lantern Cossite was killed by a science cell prisoner Nol-Anj.  Nol-Anj was able to do this when she was selected for her great love to become a Star Sapphire.  Nol-Anj escaped Oa in a stolen star ship using Larfleeze as a cover for her getaway.  But now that Relic is dealt with we can get back to some good old fashion revenge/justice.

So Hal and Kilowog track down the fugitive, and lure her out by threatening her clan.  See Nol-Anj's great love is for her clan, so one in danger, will bring love gun a runnin.  Now we have a classic construct fight between Hal and Nol Anj.  Kilowog deals with the natives, and after he's victorious, the two on one odds tip the scale.

In the end Nol-Anj uses her Star Sapphire powers in a way we haven't seen before.  She unleashes several tethers that find people all over the sector, and bring them to her aid.  So far for this issue love wins out in the end.

Bits and Pieces:

So the status quo as we know it has been changed, so this issue is getting us familiar with what shall now be the norm.  New home, and new mission statement.  But it all feels a bit stale.  With Hal in charge of the Corps. it feels that we have two Corps. titles instead of just one, and the Green Lantern Corps. was the least interesting title I felt in the group.  But this is an alright issue, and a jumping on point so I'll continue to wait and see if I get one of my favorite titles back on the pedestal I once had it on.

6.8/10
