The Return of Wonder Woman Part 1 of 8: Reunion

Bruce Wayne is old and Superman invites Terry to story time .  Bruce takes Wonder Woman for a tour of Neo Gotham, but which Wonder Woman is it?  Whichever one it is, she kicks some ass and Terry is leaving for a road trip to end all road trips.  This and more in Justice League Beyond 2.0 #17.

Last issue of Justice League Beyond 2.0 ended with the League barely defeating Brainiac with the help of Wonder Woman.  While everyone celebrated, Superman accused Wonder Woman of paving the way for the Justice Lords to return to Earth.  Last weeks Batman Beyond 2.0 (reviewed here) officially started the Justice Lords crossover and was good...confusing, but good.  Christos Gage explains what's going on this week.

While Bruce Wayne and Wonder Woman tour Neo Gotham, Superman gets Terry (and the reader) up to speed on the Justice Lords.  If you want to know more about them, buy this issue and/or watch the Justice League animated series two-part "A Better World".  For those of you too lazy and/or cheap, the Justice Lords are an alternate Earth Justice League who had good intentions, but became Fascist dictators after President Luthor did a bad, bad thing.

The reason Superman is telling the story is that him and Batman are not sure which Wonder Woman has returned to Earth.  Unfortunately, there is only one way to find out if this is a nice little reunion or the start of an invasion.  Terry must travel to the Justice Lord's world and find Lord Batman.  Easier said than done, especially after seeing what happened in last weeks Batman Beyond 2.0.

This issue is the definition of setup, but in a new arc with a whole new universe being introduced, it had to happen.  Christos Gage does a great job getting everyone where they need to be and then sending Terry off into the unknown.  What I like best about this issue is that the pieces of the puzzle between Batman Beyond and this book are already coming together.  Where I was confused last week, this week was an "ah-ha" moment.  Readers of both books know that Terry is not going to find exactly what he is looking for and will seek out a very unusual partner.  I can't wait.

Dexter Soy is on art duties and although I already miss Iban Coello, what he does here is very impressive. It's more in line with Thony Silas' art in Batman Beyond which makes sense for the crossover.  I also want to point out the cover by Khary Randolph.  It is awesome and also shows a few of the characters we will get to see soon.  Go Hawkgirl!

Bits and Pieces:

Christos Gage gets everyone up to speed on the Justice Lords and continues the mystery of why Wonder Woman came back to this World.  This issue ties in with last weeks Batman Beyond 2.0  so well by leaving so much still a mystery.  I can't wait to see what Terry finds in his search for Lord Batman.

8.5/10
