Where Have You Been All My (New 52) Life

Stormwatch ended last month with issue #29 and like the entire New 52 run, it was horrible.  I know what you're thinking, "Hey Dude, how did Stormwatch end last Month when there is an issue this Month?"  First off, don't use the word dude, no one says that anymore.  Stormwatch #30 is a reboot of the reboot going back to the original team before the reboot.  Understand?  Well, the only thing you need to know going forward is that this is the best Stormwatch issue of the New 52 and can be read and understood by anyone.  It would be a great jumping on point except that it's the last issue of the series.  Now I'm getting confused.

Sterling Gates and Jeremy Roberts must have picked the short straw.  They got the job of writing the last issue of a disaster of a book and make everything better going forward.  DC couldn't have picked a better pair.  Seriously, I loved this issue.

We get the original team back (costumes and all) and everything feels so fresh and new.  The story and characters are so good.  Gates proves right out of the gate (pun intended) that he knows these characters, can write these characters and make the reader like these characters.  There are little jokes inserted for regular Stormwatch readers (all 3 of us) and even one for Green Lantern fans, but anyone can join in and get up to speed right away.  There is even an awesome twist that sets up a great future villain.  If the mission of this issue was to restore the original team into the New 52 for future use then mission accomplished.  I just want more now and am furious Gates wasn't on this book from the start.

You know who also makes me furious?  Jeremy Roberts.  The nerve of him drawing this book like he was born to do it.  Everything and everyone looks great and fits the story so well.  This is the best looking Stormwatch issue of the New 52.

Bits and Pieces:

What can I say?  This is the best issue of Stormwatch in the New 52.  It is also the last.  Sterling Gates and Jeremy Roberts have returned the original team for safe keeping and  (hopefully) future use.  If Stormwatch returns, these two better be at the helm.  I just wish that return was next month.

9.5/10
