Oh Atlantis and Your Super Weapons!

Last week in World's End we saw the usual battles that this series has all ready become predicable for.  Yeah I get it, it's the world's end, shit's going down and heroes have to be fighting them battles, but damn...... Does it have to be all the time?  Are we ever going to get a breather so we can explore these characters properly?  Anyway, Power Girl, Huntress and Red Tornado fought Batman and Val-Zod because they were under the control of the Fury: War, but they eventually got over that, but War was long gone.  The World Army detained Big Barda, Fury and Mister Miracle, but after a lengthy interrogation they figured that they'd allow them to escape so that they could just follow their teleportation signal back to Apokolips.  In the end we saw Dr. Crane get zapped by a mother box while his mind was linked to his robot body, so it's very possible we'll have the Earth 2 Robot Man soon and when Aqua Woman went back to check in on her people in Atlantis, she found out that the majority of her people had been killed and turned into zombies by the Fury: Death.  Okay let's check out this parallel world adventure, where hopefully it isn't just good guys beating up bad guys....... or vice versa.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our story begins with Mister Miracle, Big Barda and Fury trying to make it out of the World Army Complex and you know what?  They're seriously wrecking up the joint.  Now I don't understand this part because last issue it seemed like this was the World Army's plan.  Let them escape and then follow them home, but here we see that they're actually pretty upset that they can't stop these New Gods.  I don't know if they simply changed there mind when they saw the damage or if Terry Sloan came up with a better plan, because they eventually call off the attack on them and bring them back inside to work with them.  During the escape Mister Miracle was going for his mother box and now that he's been welcomed in with open arms out of nowhere, they simply give it to him....... Well actually they show him Jimmy Olsen holding it, which seems to be a big deal.  I'm not the best person to talk about New God stuff because when I was growing up I found it all quite confusing and being the gigantic man child that I am now, it's pretty much the same.

Apparently it's a big deal to touch the mother box and it not destroying you, so I guess Jimmy Olsen is some sort of chosen one now.  But besides for all the chosen one stuff Mister Miracle wanted the box to purify Barda and his minds from the lasting effect of Bedlam's mind control.  Fury wants a taste of that sweet mind calming mother box light, but Miracle explains that she's been under his control her whole life and it would be too much of a burden to face all of that now.  Well she tells him to suck it and gets a good dose of glow and finds out that her mother was Wonder Woman and her father Steppenwolf killed her.  It all boils down to her being pissed about being used and her wanting to get revenge with Mister Miracle against his father, since her's is already dead.  So I guess there's going to be some hate on Highfather at some point in the future....... Unless they're considering Darkseid his father...... This is what I'm talking about!  I'm already lost.

Moving on, it would appear that even though we saw Aqua Woman meeting the Fury: Death at the end of last issue.. Well I guess none of that matters here because Aqua Woman is fine and sends a communication to the World Army saying that Death had taken most of the Atlanteans, killed them and turned them into zombies.  But she also says that Death made a mistake by not killing all of them and now she plans on retaliating with an Atlantean super weapon that just might...... might destroy a lot of the surface world.  So yeah, that might happen.  Commander Khan then calls Green Lantern and asks him to go try and calm down Aqua Woman since he's done shutting down all the Apokoliptian forces at the fire pit in Brazil.  But as our hero begins to make his way, he's taken down by Grundy, who makes his triumphant return to Earth 2.  This guy is worse than gum in your hair...... You can't get him out?  He's pretty awful.

In the end, now that our other heroes, woah don't get crazy thinking we'd take a look at Hawkgirl, Doctor Fate or Flash.  No, I'm talking about the characters that the writers only seem to care about, Batman, Val-Zod, Power Girl, Huntress and Red Tornado now completely free from War's control figure they'll go down in the fire pit in Geneva and shut it down.  But first they need Val's science and engineering expertise........ which apparently he has, to create protective suites for the humans of the group.  So Batman get's a Earth 2 version of the Hell Bat Suit and Huntress looks ridiculous and the group make their way down into the fire pit.  In the last pages we see that even on Earth 2, Huntress is still a bungling superhero because she falls right into the master of the Four Furies, Desaad.  Now he's going to have his way with our heroes.  From what I understand he's into some wild stuff.

That's it for this week's World's End and even though it still had a little bit of fighting, I have to say that this was the most enjoyable of the series so far.  That's what I'm talking about though, they took the time to put the character's fists down and the issue soared because of it.  I have some problems with what went down last issue and what they're giving us here, but maybe I'm just wrong because it happens a lot, but I just got the impression that the World Army just changed their minds out of nowhere here and why wasn't Aqua Woman fighting Death?  Did Death just say "Move along now" and Aqua Woman complied?  I feel like Annie Wilkes from Misery when she went all psychotic about a cliff hanger..... Maybe I shouldn't ever meet the cockadoodie creators.  See you next week as we dive back into this parallel world and see how our "Wonders" fare against their latest dilemmas.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

I'd like to talk about the art here, but with the amount of artists on this book and DC not labeling who did what, well I guess I can't because I don't have a good enough eye to tell you who did what art.  So for the most part the art was great.  Certain sections were better than others and that's about as much as I can say about it.  I really need proper credits.  Now for the story, well this has got to be my favorite issue so far of World's End because it focused more on the characters and less on the smashy smashy.  A lot of cool stuff is going down here and it gives me hope that we have some really cool stuff coming in the future.  So if you wanted this book to be more than a mere slug fest, then this is the issue for you because I finally see what kind of book this can become.  Check it out.

    1. Ha ha, I didn't even think about it when I read it and had to go back to see what you were talking about and BAM! Big freaking owl staring at me right in my jerk off face. Yeah, I'd say that seeing Hooty is a dead give away for a future Dr. Mid-Nite. But I hope they tweak his powers a bit because a surgeon who can see in the dark is not what World's End needs at this point. he'd be murdered so fast. Good catch! I was so focused on Robot Man that nothing else mattered at that point.

  3. See, when you say things like that in the manner that you said them, it makes me think that your some kind of clone of mine fucking with me, because that's exactly what I would say. Love me some Hourman. Also, I'm sorry I only made you to do the work I didn't want to do... If you come back home, I'm sure we can work out a better arrangement.

  4. If Jody misses an average of 65 work days and makes fun of people because of their height and beautiful eyes, then yes, he is your clone.

  5. Eric, the truth is I am the Earth 2 version of you. XD but seriously though, Its just been pushing me the wrong way that Thomas Wayne batman has essentially become Hourman, but not. If he were to just stop being batman(in costume and name) and call himself hourman i'd be okay with that. I get he's honoring his son, but he could be Hourman

...also as a 6'4" guy i occasionally do make fun of people cuz of their height XD

    1. I want a doppelganger and I don't want to hear things like Mini Me, Kenny Baker or a member of the Lollipop Guild!

  6. See that's the shit I'm talking about. I feel the same way.... Well I would prefer Rex Mason, but what the hell and I'm 6'5 and people argue with me that I'm 6'4. If you have an affinity for headbands then I have to go to defcon 1 on the doppelganger front.

    1. Oh, fuck me. I was trying to get a Halloween message up and I didn't even look at what I wrote. It's been a long week and now I have to turn in my fanboy card. Lousy Rex's. But now that you mention it...... I would love to see Metamorpho too.

    2. Actually where has Metamorpho been in the New 52? Has he been in it and I just haven't read anything he's been in? :/

    3. I'm pretty sure that Rex created Element Woman or was at least with her when it happened and she's the one doing all Metamorphing in the New 52
