Even the Best Laid Plans...

This is the space usually reserved for my gushings about this book and Tom Taylor.  Year Three has been so good, I really can't help myself.  It's been a "magical" bunch of issues and I love the characters involved.  The tension has been building and it comes to a head this week.  However, for the first time in a long time, I was left wanting.

Last week's issue was all about Constantine trying to end this war the only way he knows how, being a jerk.  By using Raven, he tricked Superman into leaving the protection of the Spectre and falling into Ragman's trap (and rags).  The issue ended with Superman being consumed by Ragman and that's where we pick up this week.  I have been worried all week about Ragman and it seems my fears were well founded.  Constantine said it earlier in the series, everyone who gets near him dies.  Right you are, Constantine.  Right you are.

As Superman gets consumed by Ragman, Constantine gets all wikipedia and describes Ragman's powers.  Superman will become a rag in Ragman's suit until he atones for all his evil.  As Constantine says, that's going to take a long time.  Of course, Superman tries to break free, but with no help from his allies, it looks bad.  That is until he...I don't want to spoil what he did, but it was a bit too convenient and not up to par with what Tom Taylor usually gives us.  Oh well, it does push the story forward and that means trouble for Ragman.

The book ends with another death ( I'm sure you can guess who) at the hands of the Spectre, Shazam looking like he  realizes he picked the wrong team and Superman about to kill Constantine.  For the first time in Year Three, I wasn't blown away.  Yes, there was a crazy death, but you could see that coming from eight miles away and how Superman gets out of his predicament was just too easy.  The cliffhanger has me interested in next week's issue, but that doesn't mean it wasn't predictable.  Hopefully, Taylor twists things up next week.

Another thing off this week was Mike S. Miller's art.  I usually enjoy Miller's art, but his character work is just not that good here. Constantine and Shazam are the worse offenders.

Bits and Pieces:

Injustice: Year Three #8 is a rare misstep in the series.  The elements I usually love are all there, but the execution was off.  The story and art were subpar this week, but I'm still looking forward for next week's issue.

6.8/10

  1. I'm hoping that Spectre dies or his spirit gets shattered or whatever the worst possible thing that can happen to him happens. The same goes for Captain Marvel (I refuse to call him Shazam).

    1. my guess is the Spectre goes down in this Year's finale and yes, I want him to die a horrific death. Captain Marvel will get his!

  2. 2 things:
1: Captain marvel doesnt deserve what comes to him(if you played the game the series is based off of, you'll know what i mean)
2: I hope(though i doubt it wont happen) Spectre faces off with Phantom Stranger. just while all the crazy shiz is going down, these 2 colossal giant forms of the spectre and stranger are trading blows

    1. My guess is that Sinestro will convince Superman to not kill Constantine and use him as a bargaining chip
