Wakey!Wakey!

Tom Taylor's Injustice has been one of my favorite books since it debuted.  That is why I was so sad when it was announced he was leaving the book.  However, my frown turned upside down when I found out that Brian Buccellato was the new writer.  I love Buccellato and his hire speaks volumes for the importance of this book.  It's no longer a mere video game tie-in, but a tremendously popular franchise.  This issue is Buccellato's first and it's immediately clear that he not only "gets" it, but may even take it to new heights.  I never fell off of the Injustice bandwagon, but I'm hoping with Buccellato on board, the wagon will get a lot more crowded.

This week's issue opens up with Wonder Woman and Superman gazing at a sunset together.  I'm sure that every fan had the same reaction.  What the hell happened?  Even as I was thinking that, I was also so glad to see Wonder Woman back in the mix.  Well, Buccellato quickly explains the what's what and it makes complete sense and ties in so nicely to Tom Taylor's last two issues. Give Madame Xanadu another plus one when it comes to predictions.

The major development is how Wonder Woman woke up from her magical sleep.  Though Buccellato keeps the reader in the dark about the price and particulars, we get to see the end result and who can argue with that. If that's not good enough,  it looks like they can use the same method to bring back Superman.  Batman had his hands full with just Superman so I can't imagine what he'll do with Wonder Woman and the Man of Steel.

It's great to have Wonder Woman back and we are reminded how long she's been out of the game by how pissed she is about what has happened since.  After seeing Superman's "true color", her anger is focused on Sinestro.  I can only hope that Sinestro gets his...he's been such a prick.

While all this is going on, Team Batman is busy in the Tower of Fate.  Constantine may have declared victory, but Batman doesn't believe the War is over and even if it is, there is tons of work to do.  To that effect, he visits some friends for a chat.  Of course by friends I mean captured members of Superman's team.  It doesn't look like they are joining up with Batman anytime soon.

Brian Buccellato does a really good job of picking up the Injustice story left by Tom Taylor and running with it.  Depending on what side of the fence you're on, you'll either like of hate this issue for being more of the same.  I don't care because I love Injustice and I'm sure Buccellato will make the book more of his own as the story continues to unfold.  In the end, however, this issue is pretty much setup.

Mike S. Miller is on art and while I haven't been a huge fan of his on this book, he does a good job here.  This is easily his best issue of Injustice and I'm glad that Buccellato got that extra push.

Bits and Pieces:

Brian Buccellato takes over Injustice this week and while he's easing into the book, I enjoyed what he set up.  Wonder Woman has returned and she may hold the key to getting Superman back on his feet as well.  This is not the best issue of Injustice yet, but it's a solid start to what I hope is a long and fruitful run of this book.

  1. I kinda giggled at the dream sequence...mainly because i know that it was a dream the moment diana and clark were awake...and i could only picture Wonder Woman getting all blushing in the real world, so what would mother and Ares think XD

    1. I have a weird feeling that Ares knows. I actually didn't think it was a dream at first and I was so mad...then I realized I was a big dummy
