All For Not

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Last issue of Trinity of Sin, we saw our trio on a dark deformed Earth that an ancient being named Nimraa transformed to look like the world before the light came and had enough of that shit.  If that wasn't bad enough we also saw our heroes completely stripped of their consciousness and become slaves of the ancient bird monster.  Luckily, Pandora had cast as spell earlier in case of something like this and her being was restored to her and after collected the rest of the Trinity and whammying them with the same spell, they went off in search of a mystical item that might save the world: The Redemption Box........pretty much the anti-Pandora's box.  As the issue came to a close though, we saw our heroes reach where the box was kept but The Question alerted Nimraa to their locations....... So yeah, Question is still screwing everyone.  Let's check out this issue and see if our heroes reach the Redemption Box and if we can get some more intel on our current Question.

Explain It!:

The story begins with Phantom Stranger calling forth all his power to tell Question to suck it and even though Question would be getting the traitor's death he deserved by getting Strangered and falling off a cliff, Pandora saved him and we spend the majority of this issue seeing Phantom Stranger and Pandora arguing about it.  Pandora uses her magic to open a hole in the mountain so the three could escape Nimraa and his swarms of people turned monsters and then quickly closes it and puts a protection spell over it.

Once in the mountain, like I said Phantom Stranger and Pandora argue about why they need Question but eventually we're saved from that boredom when they come across a three headed monster calling itself "The Caretaker".  We get a very brief "you shall not pass moment", just not as epic and then it's all over.  I'm serious, Phantom Stranger lays a hand on it and we see that the monster is actually an angel and apparently now that it's charade is over, the three can pass no problem.......... I don't really see the point of this but maybe using the power of "The Presence" showed the angel that they were worthy to go after the Redemption Box........ That or he was just a really shitty guard........ Maybe it's a little from column A and a little from column B.

Eventually Nimraa breaks a crack in Pandora's protection spell and transforms his swarm.......... into an actual swarm by shrinking them down to bug size and the swarm make their way to stop the trio from reaching the Redemption box, but really it seems that they didn't have to try so hard because Pandora and Phantom Stranger continue to argue about whether they need Question or not!  At this point I was just screaming at Phantom Stranger to let it go and trust Pandora because as it turns out; yes, they do need Question because the only way they can take the box is if they grab it together..........  Geeze!

In the end, the swarm and Nimraa come in and almost stop the Trinity of Sin (again, so much for "The Caretaker"), but using the classic "Red Rover" method, they grab the box, but instead of shining a magical light that dispels the darkness of the world, our saviors are sucked inside the box and Nimraa chuckles at the turn of events.  As the issue closes we see that our Trinity are still suffering because for whatever reason now that they are inside the box, they're crucified in a desert............ or whatever it is when someone is strung up without a cross............. So much for redemption.

That's it for this issue of Trinity of Sin and like I've been since this series started, I was bored out of my mind reading it.  I don't know if it's the plot, the pages jammed full of dialog and inner monologues or what; because I love these characters and it blows my mind that I could be bored with them.  One of the major drawbacks to this issue was the constant reminder that Phantom Stranger doesn't trust Question.  We get it already, you don't have to spend half the book by keep bringing it up.  The only plus to this book is the amazing art of Yvel Guichet, who just makes these characters look great and I don't know if anyone actually does this, but when I was a young kid I would buy a book just based on it's art.  If that's still a thing, it's the only reason I could see anyone picking this series up.  With two more issues left, I have no idea how this series could be redeemed.

Bits and Pieces:

Four issues in and we still know nothing about the Question except that he can't be trusted.  I can understand not going into Pandora's and Phantom Stranger's back stories because they had their own series and we've done that, but for a lot of us we got interested in this title because of the Question's inclusion and being bored every issue because of an overly confusing plot, heavy exposition and no Question intel is not what draws the readers in.  Just another uninteresting issue to add to the series.  I'm just thankful that the art is so strong.

5/10

  1. This series had potential....so much potential...I'm sad it will end soon before it was given a chance

    2. First issue sales were lousy. It needed more star-power, too.
