Girls Night Out

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now that Convergence is here, it's time to check out the Pre-Flashpoint girls of the Justice League in this issue as they are forced to go up against the might of the Flashpoint Aquaman............ That's about all I have to say about that.  The Dome is up and we're off to the adventure!  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with Supergirl flying as fast as she can to get Jesse Quick to the hospital because just like her, it looks like her baby is quick too.  That's right, during a surprise baby shower that Zatanna, Supergirl, Vixen, and Jade set up in Gotham......... as a way to say that they were all simply going to see one of Zatanna's shows and not throwing a surprise party, Jesse went into early labor.  There's a bit here that I found really funny........... Well, besides for Congorilla showing up that is........ the part I'm talking about is when Zatanna teleports Jade, Vixen and herself to the hospital and we get a "BAMF" sound and I don't know what it is about those four letters but seeing them as a sound of a smokey teleportation just brings a smile to my face.  Even though Jesse's baby was coming early, it wasn't early enough for our girls to get the hell out of Gotham and that's too bad because right as Jesse gives birth, our heroes see the Dome go up around the city and we instantly see their powers go away............ Well, pretty much we see Jade's green skin go away......... So yeah, no powers.

We next jump to one year later, where the inhabitants of Domed Gotham are trying to get on with their Domed life and our girls are doing something for themselves and having a "girls night out".  Congorilla is taking care of Jesse's baby and everyone gets gussied up and heads off to "The Belfry" to shake their groove thangs............. and that's when we find out that Mera was trapped in the Dome as well and she's not taking her separation from Arthur as well as everyone else is apparently coping with their own situations.  It's too bad that our scantily-clad heroes night out will have to wait though because as Zatanna was trying to get Mera to stop being so mopey, Telos arrives and gives us the lowdown about how he's going to force this Dome to go up against another Domed Gotham and it just so happens that the other Gotham is the one that the Flashpoint Aquaman was trapped in.  His first action when being confronted with this other city............. Noticing that this one has a Mera and man does he want some of that.

In the end, Aquaman's forces kidnap Mera and that was just a really bad move because while yes the Domes are down and he has his aquatic telepathy back, that also means that Supergirl, Vixen, Zatanna, and Jade have their powers back too and man do I not want to be the Flashpoint Aquaman when the four woman go to get their friend back.

That's it for this issue of Convergence: Justice League and while after reading this I don't see any real reason for these stories being important to the "big picture" of Convergence.......... It is sure as hell was a lot of fun.  Just a bunch of our favorite heroines having a party and then having to adjust to life without powers in this Domed world.  With the evil of Flashpoint's Aquaman added to the dynamic, we have ourselves the potential in seeing a badass fight ahead next month in the second issue and I'm pumped as hell to see that.  Not only was the issue fun with just it's inconsequential get-togethers but it was presented with some excellent art and colors.  The book just looked amazing and I had a way better time than I originally thought I would.

Bits and Pieces:

While the ending got me extremely hyped for the conflict that the next issue promises, the rest of the issue seemed like a laid back time, where old friends get together again after a long time and you're all surprised that it's as if you've never been apart........... Yeah, this was a great issue and not only because of all that action and laid back stuff I was just saying.  It also has some spectacular art that makes you realize how much you've missed these characters.

8.5/10
