DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 12/7/16

We Heard You Like Variant Covers, So We Put a Variant in Your Variant

Last week was a struggle to put together five covers worth commending, but this week there were a lot more books released by DC! Still, it was sort of difficult. Not too many covers worth noting, though I don't recall any real stinkers. Maybe that Justice League variant by Panquette, that one seemed off the mark. But the ones below are, without any doubt, the best of week. I had someone from NASA help me with the calculations, so I know they're correct. See below and find out if you are factually right or wrong about your opinion.

Aquaman #9
Brad Walker, Andrew Hennessy, Gabe Eltaeb
This is a pretty cute nod to Planet of the Apes, though this scene doesn't appear anywhere in the issue. You do see the Statue of Liberty through a window at one point, though.

Green Arrow #12 variant
Neal Adams with Jeromy Cox
Here's good ol' Neal Adams, showing everyone he can still draw circles around some contemporary greats. Perfect use and execution of perspective here.

Superman #12
Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza, Wil Quintana
I love DC's Frankenstein, but moreso I love the implication of this cover. Frankensuper? Superstein? Whatever, I would read a book about a reanimated Superman corpse, no problem.

Cyborg #6 variant
Carlos D'Anda
It's a new character named Variant...on a variant cover! Whoaa! Cover-ception, bro! I also like the composition of this, plus the Cyborg Cupid, but I picked this cover mainly to make a stupid joke.

Harley Quinn #9 variant
Frank Cho and Laura Martin
Frank Cho, you are an exceptional artist. Fuck the controversy.

  1. Reggie....come on... That Shade Variant! Yes it's just black and white, but there is so much good on that cover!

  3. I agree about Frankenstein and that SUPERMAN cover (the interiors for that issue are just as good...if I had to pick a favorite comic artist it would be Doug Mahnke).

    And, it's SUPER-FRANK, obviously.
