Back to the Magiclands we go as we jump into the newest issue of Shazam! and discover what lies ahead for our group of heroes now that they've been separated and we turn our exploration of these lands into high gear as everything comes at us fast and heavy as each of our Shazam Family are faced with the reasons that these lands were shutdown from each other in the first place.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

As we saw in the previous issue, Freddy and Darla found themselves chucked into the Wildlands and Eugene and Pedro in the Gamelands.  With that, the Funlands still seems the place to be while we learn what King Kid does with those who go and ruin his fun by becoming adults.  If this place seemed too good to be true before, you definitely get an eye full this issue of why fun is fun and done is done.

The reveals don't quit though with showing these new lands and even the true nature of King Kid because one of the first things we're shown when presented with the Wildlands is a Captain Marvel/Shazam mainstay, Tawky Tawny the Tiger and while we don't get a lot of him in this issue, we definitely see how he's a misfit of his own world and how we'll be able to get him in our Shazam! book on a more permanent basis going forward, which is exciting as hell.  Speaking of exciting, this book is full of excitement in all of the reveals that it gives you here, especially by the time we get to the cliffhanger, which just makes the wait for the next issue a killer because of how unexpected the final page is......... especially for how new this series is.

All in all, this continues to be a really cool book that's full of fun and excitement and while it is more lighthearted than any other book in DC's roster right now, there is a darkness to it all that seriously balances everything out to a wonderful degree.  If I do need to have a problem with this issue..... which I hate to do because it's not everyday that I get to be this happy about a book, it's the depiction of the Gamelands, which seems to be a tad bit less than everything else we're getting because it just seems like Tron to me and while I love Tron........ I don't really need a video game world thrown into the middle of all of these other wonders we're getting.  Besides that though, this book is a joy and I can't wait to get the next issue.

Bits and Pieces:

With the stakes raised for each of our Shazam Family and fantastic art depicting it all, this issue seemed to have it all...... including a killer cliffhanger that makes me mad as hell that I have to wait another month to get my next installment.  If you've been on the fence with this title, this is the time to get on the trolley and check it out because it's so very satisfying.

8/10

  1. Great review.Great issue. That reveal of the fate of the adults disturbed me for some reason. That last page and the dialogue preceding it had me smiling from ear to ear.
