Getting Back To Business

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

In the last issue of Green Lantern, we saw Hal sent on leave by the Templar Guardians and go back to Earth, which I've been waiting to see for a long time.  It was there though that we realized that things aren't all sunshine and rainbows for the leader of the Corps, no instead it looks like Hal is dealing with a lot after the events of GODHEAD and really, every other awful thing that's happened to the Corps and him with every crossover before it.  You figure the fact that the universe pretty much hates the Lantern's guts due to the Durlan shape shifting ruse and that a guy he knows his banging his ex-girlfriend......... Yeah, you might be a little frazzled too.  So Hal took some time for himself last issue to go get some drinks but Guy Gardner and future Barry Allen had to show up and force their problems on Hal............ jerks.  At the end of the issue Carol Ferris showed up and told Hal to get his shit together and maybe.............  just maybe if he does that, they'll have a shot in the future.  Let's check out where our story goes from there.

Explain It!:

Our story begins with some bad shit going down.  Out in the Universe, something........... I say something because I have no idea; is causing whole worlds and the things that encompass those worlds to turn to stone.  I'm guessing that it's some kind of magical force because all our favorite DC magic users on Earth actually feel when it happens to some random planet, but this could also just be that they're really tuned into the universe and this kind of catastrophe is something that would just come up on their radar........ I don't know........ It's probably the latter.  Since the Universe is going to hell again it looks like it's time to call Hal Jordan back to Mogo so that he can sort it out.

Hal though seems to be using his time off to continue space policing and even though he catches some mineral poachers, it seems like the planet's officers don't want anything to do with the Lanterns and they just ask him to leave and that he not return.......... Jurisdiction is a bitch.  So Hal goes back off to Mogo where he learns that moral is a bit down in the Corps.  Yeah, the universe still hates them but now the Lanterns are fighting among themselves, so comradery is right out the window.

In the end, Hal goes to see the Guardians who tell him that even though he has a strange way of leading, they are really impressed with how he's led the Corps through some of their most trying times and that he must as leader also be the face of the Corps so that the Universe starts backing them again............... But you know what they don't say?  They don't say a goddamn word about this planetary genocide that they've been monitoring.......... What the hell?  I'm really starting to lose patience with these little blue bastards.  Here they are again keeping secrets while they simply stroke Hal's ego and tell him to be their PR person.  It's nonsense and Hal just eats it up.

That's it for this issue of Green Lantern and really.......... Nothing happened here.  We were shown a great big problem facing the universe but our heroes were kept in the dark about it, so instead of possibly rallying the troops together to do what the Green Lantern Corps does best......... You know protecting the Universe and all.......... We simply got the idea that things are still bad for the Lanterns and that's it.  So besides for the good time that is Billy Tan's artwork, there isn't much going for this issue.

Bits and Pieces:

This is not what I expected from reading last month's issue.  Now I usually say how I enjoy a slow more personal story about the characters but here Hal just comes off as a sap that needs to have his ego stroked and besides for that and the continuing fact that the Universe doesn't like the Lantern's jerk off faces, nothing really happens.  We're shown a new great big bad that will threaten everything and everyone but it's all pushed to the side for......... Well for the idea of PR campaigning.

6.5/10

    1. I wouldn't doubt it. That giant monster has to come around some time and sooner sounds better than later.

  2. I don't blame Hal for eating up their compliments, it's like the first actual nice thing anybody has said to him in ages.
