Top 5 Fridays: Top New DC Comics Titles That I'm Looking Forward To In June

Today's news about the twenty four new titles coming to DC Comics after Convergence was just mind blowing.  June is going to be a brave new world for our favorite heroes and the world they encompass and for some this may be a good thing and for others a bad thing.  I'm in the middle right now because I hate to jump the gun and throw my emotions at something before I know anything about it........ That was old fanboy me,........ he was an asshole.  With titles coming at us though like Prez, Black Canary, Mystic U, We Are Robin and possibly Starfire; it seems like DC is going for a younger audience with their approach to their books and I feel a little alienated as an older fan because of it.  Hopefully it will do it's job and boost sales and bring in new readers because even though I feel left out with some of these titles, it doesn't mean that I want DC Comics to do poorly in the comic book industry........ It almost feels like we broke up but decided to stay friends........ and actually meant it.  Not everything though came off as a weird choice for new titles to me and with this list I want to talk about those titles.  Let's check out Top 5 Fridays: Top New DC Comics Titles That I'm Looking Forward To In June........... I just wish I had pictures for all of them.

#5.  Constantine: The Hellblazer

While the first outing for Constantine on the small screen seems to be coming to an end, it looks like DC Comics isn't ready to call it quits on the character yet.  Constantine has been falling in sales month after month and while I thought that the TV show would pick up sales, I continued to be wrong like everything else in life and it seems like DC's next plan to keep the character relevant and lucrative is to re-title and re-number his series under the old Hellblazer moniker and hope that old fans who gave up on the brash Brit when he was brought into the New 52 would come back and take a peak to see if Constantine could be brought back to it's more mature roots.  I have no idea if this means that this book will remain in New 52 continuity or go back to where Hellblazer left off or if it's a new continuity all together, I just know that I'll continue to read Constantine and hopefully continue loving it.

#4.  Justice League of America

I'm so curious about what this Justice League of America title will be.  Since the regular Justice League title is continuing, is this something that is existing outside of the New 52 continuity or possibly a way to tell stories of the Justice League within those first five years that we didn't get to see only under a really confusing title?  It's just odd to me, but I love this team of heroes and seeing the name Justice League of America just brings back so much nostalgia from when JLA was the big DC title that I used to pick up as a kid........  I can't wait until the full solicits drop and I can wrap my mind around what this is...... but whatever it is, it's still the worlds' greatest superheroes together on a team and really, that's all it needs to be.

#3.  Green Lantern: Lost Army

Yeah, we don't have a picture for this one but I dig this and it seems ominous and mysterious enough to work.  With Green Lantern Corps, New Guardians and Red Lanterns being cancelled at the end of next month, we all knew that DC wouldn't leave us hanging with only two Lantern books for the summer.  While I was hoping for a Blue or White Lantern book, I guess that Lost Army will have to do.......... because it's what we got and I'm trying to stay positive here.  Really, I just love Lantern books and I'm sure that I'll love this.  I just hope that it has to do with Kyle Rayner because I want to know what my favorite Lantern is up to in the Universe.

#2.  Cyborg

All I can say about this is......... It's about freaking time.  How can we go almost four years with one of the founding members of the Justice League not getting his own book?  I can kind of see it the first two years because Cyborg spent most of his time on the Watch Tower and that seems like it would be kind of a boring book but he didn't have to stay up there all the time......... It's the power of writing comics, things change all the time.  I guess Cyborg was just afraid that he looked fat and now that he has his newer leaner post Forever Evil body, he's ready to go out on the town.  I just have such high hopes for this title because the character is so cool and with what he can do, it's sure to be a interesting book that looks great........... Hopefully he can team up with the Metal Men for some issues because that was fun the last time we saw it.

#1.  Earth 2: Society

For as harsh as my reviews are for this title and it's weekly spin off, you'd think that I wasn't a fan of Earth 2 or any of the Wonders that occupy that world, but really it's the complete opposite and it's Earth 2 that finally got me into reading the New 52 and eventually starting this site with Jim.  Finally getting these characters in a place where they can slow down and not be fighting a war all the time and actually forming the Justice Society is why I started reading Earth 2 in the first place........ So yeah, I'm excited as hell about this book.  The war is finally going to end and from it's ashes our heroes will come together and hopefully bring me everything that I wanted all along.  Okay, let's just skip Convergence and get right to summer.  I need to check out this book.

That's it for this week's installment of Top 5 Fridays........ and man am I still completely in shock at the twenty four new titles announcement.  I mean we knew they were coming but to actually see what they are and what DC is planning for the future of the DCU is just........ mind blowing?  Is mind blowing the right way to feel about this?  I don't know, I just know that a lot of these titles have me salivating in anticipation.  I hope you enjoyed the list and let us in on what your looking forward to in June and I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend.  Boosh!

  2. for me personally i can't wait for the top 2. I am nervous cuz cyborg really never had his own series before, though I think he does have the potential. As much as I would love to see him team up with the metal men, I would rather see him team up with Shazam. A SCIENCE/MAGIC WORLDS FINEST!

Also Justice Society! I know they probably won't have it like orignal team(since batman is hourman, no spectre, and Al Pratt is dead) but I am too excited for it!

    1. Not to mention Javi Pina on it as well. I think Jesus let Javi do last month's issue of Swamp Thing and even though I really like Jesus's art, I think Javi might just be a bit better. Anyway, great art and a great writer, this book should be awesome.
