DC Comics Covers of the Week 8/24/2014

I know the old saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover", but that isn't the case with comic books, or is it?  I know a cover doesn't guarantee quality or even a story that matches it, but a great cover certainly peeks a buyers interest when it's sitting there on a shelf. These are my picks for the best DC Comics covers for the week of August 24, 2014.

Cover of the Week: Multiversity #1 (Burnham Cover Variant Edition)

Seriously, I can't look at this cover without smiling. Captain Carrot alone makes this the cover of the week, but put him in a crazy version of the most iconic cover ever and this may be the cover of the year.  Chris Burnham nails it and sets the tone for the craziness that is Multiversity.
Multiversity actually had some other kick ass covers including a Bryan Hitch variant featuring the Flash and a trippy Grant Morrison cover, but Captain Carrot wins.  On a side note, the issue itself was pretty kick ass itself.  Read Eric's review HERE.

Runner-Ups

Batwoman #34 (Rafael Albuquerque)

Rafeal Albuquerque is a favorite here at Weird Science and his cover for this week is awesome.  Though it may be a bit of a spoiler for the ending of the issue, I still love it.  With Jeremy Haun leaving the book I was hoping that Albuquerque would do interior art as well, but sadly that isn't happening.  Still, this cover shows why I get excited anytime and anywhere he shows up.  Check out my review HERE.

Teen Titans #2 (Ben Caldwell Selfie Variant)

I'll admit, the idea of selfie covers makes me cringe, but this one is pretty good.  It captures the fun I want to see from the Teen Titans and it's always funny to see Tim Drake getting pushed out of the way.  Plus, Beast Boy looks so cute, doesn't he?  I just wish the issue was a bit better.  Read Eric's review HERE

Batman Eternal #20 (Alex Garner)

Alex Garner is new hot shot cover artist and this week's Batman Eternal shows why.  The realistic, computer generated look is so unique and great.  Eric first turned me on to Garner with his Batgirl covers and the guy hasn't made a bad one yet.  In fact, this may be my least favorite of his covers and yet it's still one of the best this week.  I haven't reviewed the issue yet because I'm a lazy dummy, but I will try to get to it tonight.

Cover Song of the Week: Just a Gigolo by David Lee Roth

Dave left Van Halen to do his thing and his thing at that time included this version of Louie Prima's Just a Gigolo.  I know that people have differing opinion of Diamond Dave, but when this video came out, I was a huge fan.  Dave has fun with the song while poking fun at MTV staples including Michael Jackson and Billy Idol.  Hilarious.

See you guys next week.
