I love Injustice...Injustice: Gods Among Us and now Injustice 2.  It's kind of crazy since I have never played a second of either game (I'm not a fighting game fan), but that hasn't stopped me one bit.  I guess I'm a sucker for great characters in a well thought out and exciting story.  Go figure.  Because of this book, I look forward to Tuesdays as the start of my new comic week.  So, how did this week start out?  Let's find out...

The issue begins with a little Harley and Deadshot alone time and believe me, it's not as sexy as it sounds.  In fact, it seems as if Harley is about to lose her head one way or another, especially when Batman shows up.  I know that one of the biggest mysteries of this book is who this Batman is (and I have my theories), but we are going to have to wait a while longer to find out any new information.

While that may be a bit of a bummer, we do find out who the big bad is...Ra's al Ghul.  I am usually not a huge fan of Ra's, but he fits here and his reasons for doing what he's doing are not your normal "take over the world" stuff that would feel so "been there done that" in a book like this.  Of course, he has his team assembled, but they too are a bit more colorful than the usual League of Assassins we are used to.  In fact, there are a few all-time faves of mine suddenly in this book!  Awesome!

The focus, however, is on the gal who sits by herself on the top of that list...Harley Quinn.  Tom Taylor easily writes my favorite Harley and this issue is close to being the most badass she has ever been.  It's all about her vs Ra's and involves something so personal that you will not bat an eye when Harley activates Ra's dental plan while cursing like a teamster who is also sailor who also just curses a lot.  Seriously, this scene is heartbreaking, exciting and so, so satisfying.

After a little talk with a close friend, Harley uses her big brain (which some writers seem to forget about) and Ra's actually realizes he is a bit fucked up and they come to an understanding.  What that means going forward, I'm not sure, but it all seems set up for Harley to make a lot of wrongs turn into rights.  I just wonder what the real Batman is going to say about all this.

Surprise...I LOVED this issue.  Anytime Tom Taylor focuses on Harley, it's solid gold, but this one is solid gold wrapped in solid gold.  In just a digital chapter, Taylor introduces a handful of awesome characters, shows why they are involved and give Harley a ton of incentive to make the world a better place.  I just wonder if this is the way to do it.  I can easily recommend this book to any comic reader out there.

Daniel Sampere's art is really good this week.  It feels like he is getting comfortable with these characters and his Harley is getting better and better each issue.  However, it's the awesome side characters that I want him to do more of because they look great.

Bits and Pieces:

This is my favorite chapter of Injustice 2 so far.  Yes, it's because it's a Harley Quinn issue, but also because of the other awesome characters who turn up.  The best part is we don't get much of them so I can look forward to that soon.  The art, story and character work in this book are top notch and I love it.

  1. I have really been having a good time with this story, far more than I thought I was going to anyways
