Goddamn, has this book been such a disappointment.  On top of dealing with the same baddie for thirteen issues now, we've had so much filler thrown in that I'm not sure even Cyborg knows what he's actually trying to do in this book.  In our previous issue, we saw Cyborg come back from his boom tube nonsense that never made any sense to find that he's been gone for six months, so with the threat of Anomaly still at hand and the possibility that his friends might have been hurt during his time away............... Cyborg goes to the University and takes in a lecture about The Singularity, which is a bunch of techno gobbledegook that pretty much means what Cyborg already is.  After that, we got ourselves a rap concert featuring Exxy and finally a fight with Rattattack, which made Cyborg look pretty goddamn awful in my mind.  So now you're all caught up on our current nonsense, let's check out what this issue has in store for us.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with Cyborg and Dr. Sarah Charles having a conversation within virtual reality, where Sarah tells Vic that she'll be his inside woman in trying to take down Anomaly, which she found out was actually in the guise of Dr. Silas Stone from Variant a few issues back and from there, Cyborg is attacked by a Quantum Ninja named Fyrewyre, who we find out here got his tech from Holt Industries after he kidnapped Black Narcissus' husband and forced him to make it before killing him.  The fight is crazy as hell and I'm not exactly sure what happens because at the beginning it seems that Cyborg can't attack Fyrewyre because the villain's tech makes it so that whatever Cyborg is trying to do, the opposite happens instead, which somehow makes it so the two constantly go through wormholes that look like the VR where we saw Vic and Sarah talking earlier, but the fight is soon won after Black Narcissus shows up with the same kind of tech.

The fight is only put on hold though because we have to interrupt to get the backstory of Black Narcissus and why she became a superhero and her need to take down Fyrewyre for what he did to her husband.  After this, round two begins and since Cyborg downloaded some ninja fighting styles, he's able to overcome Fyrewyre completely........... even though the ninja aspect didn't seem to be the thing kicking his ass earlier.

In the end, after the fight is finally concluded, Sarah Charles shows up and tells Cyborg that Anomaly has left STAR Labs so Exxy, Sarah and Cyborg head on over only to find out that this was a ruse and that Anomaly let Variant tell Sarah about who he was a while ago so that she would lead Cyborg back to the Red Room eventually because Anomaly needs him to complete the voice in his head's plan on creating the Singularity.......... which when activated turns into some kind of black hole that sucks our heroes within it............. Yeah, I don't know.

That's it for this issue of Cyborg and while I didn't mind the art in this issue, even with not completely understanding what was happening with Cyborg and Fyrewyre with the wormholes opening up all over the place, the storytelling in this series just remains terrible and we spend this issue giving Black Narcissus a backstory that really just feels forced in because John Semper Jr. simply thought that we needed one here and it really comes off as an afterthought because of how one-dimensional it all came off.......... especially since Black Narcissus really seemed to lack any emotion over the whole thing.  This book just seems to be spinning its wheels to get us through each issue and nothing ever seems to add up in the end and I'm really getting tired of reading this series.

Bits and Pieces:

We get a backstory in this issue that really feels like an afterthought with how little emotion and imagination is put into it and the rest of the story just feels like the normal nonsense we get out of this series that feels like it cares less about Cyborg than I do currently......... which is a hard thing to do.  All in all, the art in this issue is half decent, but this series needs a new focus, a new writer and possibly a renumbering after all of this is said and done because it's just not good.

5/10
