After a couple of false starts, the Dark Destiny story is in full swing and I'm enjoying it.  Just as long as Bizarro doesn't continue the old-school Bizarro talk that is out of continuity (and a bit annoying), I'm in.  After seeing all the characters jumping in and out of the book last issue, I may even be able to overlook that anyway.  So, is this issue good to go?  Let's find out...

The issue opens with some cool narration by Batman that spells out why Superman is so great, but also sets him up for a fall by the end of the issue.  We also get Supes punching out Bizarro and I'm glad to say, no Bizarro talk in this entire issue!

The fun continues with Superman and Wonder Woman dealing with Artemis while things get personal with Batman and demon spawn Red Hood.  It's the standard "why did you let me die" bit we get between these two more often than naught, but the dialogue here is good and the art by V. Ken Marion is awesome.  More on V. Ken in a bit.

With the Artemis and Bizarro gone, the Trinity heads outside to do what they do best...save lives.  Including two sexy ass reviewers and podcasters...

That damn demon better not take my kick ass Robin hat!!!  Thanks V. Ken and you nailed Eric and the headband!

While all this is going on, we catch up to Constantine who has just found himself face-to-face with a huge, snarling demon. After using the force to get rid of it, he heads inside a glowing cave and it's time for a little pow wow with  Circe, Ra's and some familiar faces fresh out of the Pandora Pits.

After one of my favorite references to De La Soul I've ever seen in comics, Constantine gets stabbed in the chest and is forced to conspire with the evil two to get the Trinity...which I think only fools Circe and Ra's.  Seriously, Constantine has this all under control, right?  Right?!?

The issue ends with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman stopping one evil just as a new one shows up.  The cliffhanger plays with the fact that Superman is susceptible to magic and that a demon Deadman is so kick ass!

I liked this issue a lot.  The story is in full swing and besides a couple of forced movie references, the dialogue for each character was spot on.  Most importantly, this issue was just a dark, fun time.  The only thing down here is not getting more of Circe and Ra's and having their plan for world domination moving at a snails pace at this point.

It doesn't hurt that V. Ken Marion is one of my favorite artists and believe me, having me and Eric in the issue didn't lead me to that decision...my eyes did.  My lovely baby blue eyes that you may not have seen in the panel above, but believe me, they are lovely.  So is Marion's art in this issue.

Bits and Pieces:

After a slow start, the Dark Destiny story is in full swing and it's an action packed good time. The cliffhanger has me expecting things to get worse before better and V. Ken Marion shows why he is one of my favorite artists.

8.0/10

  1. Still pisses me off of the Outlaws being in this shotty way, so much so that I don't think I could give this a fair score. Only plus sides to this issue was seeing Constantine get stabbed, and The weird science boys getting some love.

    1. At least bizarro keeps his mouth shut...i can go with the demon versions of Jason and Artemis acting like this, but I am tired of one-note jason.
