SPACE ZOMBIE!

Doing a recap from each previous issue is getting harder and harder, so I think I'm just give you the basics to understand what's going on to help you remember and prepare you for the current issue for now on.  So for our very basic jump to Five Years From Now.  We saw last issue that Grifter was getting to know the terrifying uber powered Fifty Sue, Superman's a jerk for sabotaging Jason Rusch and his colleague's teleportaion machine, Ray Palmer cut off the dead Hawk Man's arm to put on Frankenstein, and a mysterious god that had Brainiac's symbol all over it's temple killed a bunch of treasure hunters that were seeking fortune and glory.  I hope that catches you all up, and that you understand it, because doing a recap for a year long continuous story was getting ridiculous.  So let's check out what the world Five Years From Now has in store for us this week.

Explain It!:

Let's start out on Cadmus Island where Deathstroke and Fifty Sue show Grifter what he'll be doing on their team.  Since King Faraday believes that Grifter's power of seeing doubles, aliens, and super humans is evolving, he hopes to use Grifter to see deception.  I guess we'll see him use or not use this power in the massive prison that Deathstroke and Fifty Sue lead him to that's full of super heroes from Earth 2.  Just to drop a couple names that bring excitement to my day, we see Doctor Fate, and Mr. Miracle.  How you gonna keep the world's greatest escape artist inside that cell?  Hopefully we'll see him out and about with Doctor Fate soon, and I can nerdgasm all over the pages.  Yeah I'm a bit weird.  Let's move on.

Next we're heading over to The M.A.W., Metropolis Armory Ward, where Red Robin's girlfriend Madison goes to see her incarcerated father who betrayed the world during the Earth 2 War.  It seems she's still curious if her boyfriend could actually be the supposed fallen Titan Red Robin, and goes to daddy to see if he remembers anything about when the Titans fell during the war.  But her questions are going to have to wait because apparently the security checks at The M.A.W. suck balls because it appears Rampage just walks into the joint to break out an inmate named Ethan Boyer.  But even though I said security sucks, they do have the saving grace of being located in Metropolis, and you know what that means.  Yes Superman breaks in and attempts to stop the jail break, I say attempts because as a distraction to get away Rampage throws Madison through all the holes Superman made to get in the place, and our helmeted Man of Steel is forced to let the villains go in order to save the falling Madison.  If Superman would use a door once in a while we could of avoided this damsel in distress situation all together.  On top of all that we now have many holes inside a prison.  Jerk off Superman is at it again.  Let's move on.

Back at Terrifitech Mister Terrific is pondering on what this cyborg Plastique monster could mean since it's tech is something that Mister Terrific has only dreamed of.  We also see that inside his lab is a functional Brother Eye that isn't offering any information on where the tech came from, but I know it's not a good thing that Michael Holt is letting Brother Eye inspect the body.  SELF FULFILLING TERMINATOR PROPHECY TYPE SHIT!  Talking about strange destiny, Batman Beyond follows Key, Plastique, and Coil who plan on infiltrating Terrifitech to "The Wounded Duck" where Red Robin currently works as a bartender.  It looks like our hero from Neo Gotham plans on joining their gang to get back into Terrifitech and to find out how to stop the future.

In the end we head out into space where I was outraged last week when Ray Palmer cut off Hawkman's arm to attach it to Frankenstein.  Now I'm even more outraged because as he's attaching it Hawkman wakes the hell up!  SPACE ZOMBIE!  Well not quite, but he's not dead, and some mad scientist cut off his damn arm off!  I guess I can turn down the anger a bit though because as we've seen in Justice League United, the Nth Metal will regenerate his lost appendage, and as we see here it will keep his ass alive maybe indefinitely.  Hawkman isn't any help though in telling the S.H.A.D.E. team what went down there, and for whatever reason we see that Father Time is watching what the team is doing, and already knows what's actually coming.  So I don't know what's up with all the deception, I guess we can find out together in next week's Futures End.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

While I've been a bit harsh on this series the past two weeks, I have to say that the story seems to be back on track, offering us some awesome action, and just a few questions so we don't go completely crazy reading this issue.  It's a good time, and each week doesn't come fast enough for people that are following this huge story.  So check out this week's issue to get some entertaining exposition, some more jerk off helmeted Superman, and the always popular jump scare.  Well as much of a jump scare you can get from a comic book.

8.7/10

  1. Maybe the helmeted Superman (who I suspect is the Earth-2 Superman Val Zod) created the holes on purpose to help release his fellow Earth-2 heroes?

  2. The Earth 2 heroes were on Cadmus Island, The M.A.W. seems to be a high end Blackgate Prison.
