Getting Spanked Part 2

It's GODHEAD Act 1 Part 3 and I seriously hope all of you reading this know the stories that came before it and what's going on in the world of the Green Lanterns, but just in case you want to skip ahead I'll break down the story as simply as I can.  Highfather of the New Gods wants the Life Equation and he believes it lies beyond the Source Wall.  Using God tech, Metron and Highfather discover from Relic that Lanterns of the Prime-Universe pierced the wall and survived the ordeal.  So Highfather sent out a bunch of New Gods to collect all seven rings of the emotional spectrum and once they had them they used a device to try and create one beam of light from it.  Well after a failed attempt to use the rings to evolve a species of aliens into new New Gods, they changed their minds about using them and plan on destroying all the rings in the universe to keep the power out of the wrong hands.  They really mutated those poor people to hell and figured mercy killing them was their best option.  Anyway Hal pinpointed the New Gods location at the Source Wall later on and sent out a squadron to take them out, but got their asses seriously handed to them and it looks like Hal believes all is lost against these formidable foes.  That's what you need to know to catch you up, well that and Hal sent John Stewart and a group of Lanterns to check on the people of the planet the New Gods screwed with and I don't think he's going to like what he finds.  Okay let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our story begins with John, Arisa, Vath and Isamot arriving on the planet Ayoin, or as I prefer to call it "OH GOD!"  Now how does this work for all of you?  What do we call it when a God forces evolution?  Is that a form of Theistic evolution?  Or just a great big fuck up?  Either way our Lanterns are here to check on the people and what they don't know is that Highfather after turning them all into abominations, ordered their genocide.  Lousy Gods.  Too bad they didn't get all of the Ayoin people before our heroes arrived because it might have saved them a bit of a panic attack, because while searching for survivors they're attacked out of nowhere by one of the mutations and if it were a movie I would of jumped right out of my seat.

AAAHHHHGGG!!

After a bit of a tussle, we find out that not all of the New Gods have left and we see that when Uggha kills one of the Ayoin mutations before it had a chance to munch on Vath's face.

At first there's a bit of pleasantries before Uggha tells them that the rings are too dangerous for them to wield and offers them the chance to hand them over or die.  So yeah.........   I think there's a fight a brewin'.  Pretty much we see what happened to Hal Jordan and his band of Lanterns when they tried to go up against the New Gods last week.  John and his team get spanked hard.  The only reason they survived at all was due to Indigo-1 showing up and teleporting them the hell off of "OH GOD!"  Remember that's what I'm calling the planet.  Stay with me here.  No I'm serious here about our heroes not surviving this fight, Isamot had an explosion go off in his face, Arisa was almost maced to death, Vath had his hand shot off by John Stewart to get Uggha off him and if it wasn't for Indigo-1, it all would of been over for our Lantern heroes.

In the end........... Well the end was our heroes escaping, but there was a bit with Metron and Highfather I didn't add earlier because I didn't want to break up the action.  Back on New Genesis we find out that Metron has found the energy signature for the White Lantern, so it looks like Kyle's going to be getting some unexpected company coming his way next week in Green Lantern: New Guardians.  I really really hope that the white energy or whatever's going on with Kyle since he escaped the Source Wall is something that can affect the New Gods, because right now this fight is really one sided........................ and I don't like that.

Bits and Pieces:

Now I might come off as a hater here, but it took me a long time to warm up to Bernard Chang's style, but now that I have I don't want it to ever change..... So former hater.  Anyway the book looked great and while I dug the story and the dialogue that Jensen always seems to shine with, I don't know if it was something that needed to be said, or could of simply been talked about in passing later on.  More Lanterns going up against the New Gods and failing and another Lantern Corps getting added to the mix for the future battle.  Like I said I liked the story, but it's the possibilities of the upcoming Corps story that gets me excited.  So go check this out because it won't disappoint you in the "John being bad ass" department.

7.5/10
