Fly or Die

For our quick recap this week, you'll need to know that Cadmus Island has been compromised by Brother Eye and that all the Earth 2 heroes with implants have been taken over by the psycho satellite.  Only Fifty Sue, Grifter and Lana Lang are left to take back the island because Fifty Sue has recently found out that Slade has been working with Brother Eye and man is she not happy about that.  Lois Lane has been searching for answers to the mystery box that was left to her after Green Arrow's funeral and after talking to Cal Corcoran (Tim Drake) last week, she decides to take a leap of faith and parachute down to the coordinates left to her...... Which sounds crazy if it were me because she's already done a fly by and nothing was there.  Then again, I'm not a famous journalist, so what do I know?  Jason Rusch's former boss Dr. Yamazake has found out about Jason's extra curricular activities and fired him from the teleportation project and to prove that he's completely off his rocker, he's also kidnapped Madison Payne and planned on using her for his first test subject......... You know because her father was a war criminal and his wife died during the war....... motivation.  Finally we'll talk about Batman Beyond and Plastique trying to get Tim Drake's help in their search for Brother Eye, but as we saw last week it looks like they've found Batman instead and you know how happy he gets about people using the Bat emblem.  So let's check out what this week's foray into the future has in store for us.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our Five Years From Now story begins with Lois Lane parachuting down to Cadmus Island and immediately realizing that that might not have been the best idea, since she's surrounded by Brother Eye controlled OMACs and as she tries to make her escape into the surrounding woods....... Well she trips over herself.  Well more accurately she trips over a damaged Red Tornado asking for help...... Honestly I don't know what's freakier, tripping over yourself or tripping over yourself in a robot body.  Anyway talking about Cadmus Island, in Las Vegas King Faraday is explaining the situation on the island to the once SGT Rock and then the conversation turns sinister when they discuss why King let Fifty Sue live when he created her, when he hates super powered people.  Well it's a good thing for them that one of Fifty Sue's powers isn't super hearing because the little god girl storms into SGT Rock's office demanding that she's given a team to deal with Slade's betrayal.  This bit is pretty funny because SGT Rock had been gathering a team to take out Fifty Sue and it looks like that's the team she's going to be commandeering to go back to the island and kick Brother Eye's AI ass.......... and you know get some street cred.  If you forget who the team consists of we're looking at Voodoo, Mercy, Banger and Mash and someone they say is an OMAC, so possibly Kevin Kho as well.  Deathstroke definitely has a bad day coming for him.

Over in New York a bunch of shit is going down.  Jason Rusch trying to explain himself to Dr. Yamazake, goes to his apartment and believes he hears someone calling out for help.  Now at this point I'm thanking the comic book gods that Jason is going to rescue Madison Payne, but when Jason breaks the door down he finds even more crazy than we've already seen of the good doctor.  It seems that Dr. Yamazake likes to spend his free time watching a video in a loop of the day his wife died while attaching new super hero pictures to his psycho wall and then Xing them out.  At least Jason finally knows what kind of man he's dealing with when he confronts Dr. Yamsake in the future.  This might be a job for Firestorm.

Speaking of Dr. Yamazake, it seems that he's tired of  waiting......... Well I'm not sure what he's been doing actually.  He's had Madison for four days now and he's finally using her for his human testing............ Again, this looks like a job for Firestorm or if you'd prefer Red Robin, either way if I can quote Bonnie Tyler, "I Need A Hero".

In the end we see that Plastique was the one that blew up Tim Drake's apartment with Batman and Batman Beyond inside last issue and while it's fairly obvious, I didn't want to go a head and say it was her because I never actually saw her  do it and I have a tendency to make mistakes when I say shit all willy nilly.  So both our Batmen escaped the explosion and now it's time to see........... Who's Bat is bigger?  Well they briefly fight while falling but the big thing we wanted to see this issue is nothing more than Terry using his jet boots to get him out of Batman's grasp and I'm left wanting more and a little pissed by this week's solicit telling me we'd see this fight and the cover teasing us with it.  Oh well I guess we'll have something epic another week.

That's it for this week's Future's End and I know I get excited and say this a lot, but shit's getting real.  I didn't have a spot for this earlier, but Tim Drake has recruited Ronnie Raymond for the search of Madison Payne, so we have Ronnie Raymond, Jason Rusch and Tim Drake all lined up to make their heroic return for a future issue and we have the possibility of something serious going down with Madison Payne and I don't mean her love triangle with Ronnie and Tim.  Make sure you're back next week when we check it out and further explore the future.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

I really dug Andy MacDonald's art on the book this week and while he might have done an issue before....... Well I don't remember his name here and research is tedious, all I'm trying to say is that the book looked great, so good on MacDonald and Hi-Fi for giving us gold.  We're hitting some serious plot points this week and it's all coming together to make something epic.  Fifty Sue getting scary and kicking ass, Batman vs. Batman and Firestorm's heroic return are all things that are explored here and it just really gets me hyped for the next week.  A fun issue and even though we've got a lot of interesting stories besides the ones present here, it's definitely got me interested in what's going on with these characters.  So much story..... So much awesome.  Check it out.

  1. I wish i could get issues sooner, the tension it escalates and I just want more each week!

I do however hope we can get back to Frankenstein and the gang soon, though I do like how they are focusing in on certain Points of views and storylines

    1. That's the problem I have, I was all into Frankenstein and The Gang and that was my main focus of this series, but these segments have really peaked my interest in what's going on in New York.

    2. As I said in my comment, i think the writers are singling out certain storylines at a time to make it less of a mess. Right now they focusing on whats happening with Terry and Plastique, Cadmus, and Firestorm boys. by the look of next weeks hints at the end of the issue, the firestorm story might be coming to a close, by which i mean they will shift focus over to another story(hopefully frank and friends)
