I would say that last chapter's cliffhanger promised a bloody good time, but that would be a really lame joke.  Oh, the hell with it...the last page showed Hawkman covered in blood and it sure didn't look like it was his own.  He looked like a badass and while I hate him for being the wife beater he is, I was intrigued to see what Batman had him looking for.  Do we get to see it and is it as cool as I hoped it would be?  Let's find out...

The issue opens with a little cleanup in the Lead Mines and I'm not talking about all the trash that we know Batman is letting pile up, but showing both Batwoman and Batgirl.  I guess Kate is done playing dress up because she's in her normal costume, but it still made me laugh.  The three of them are hatching a plan (or plans) and while we don't know what they are doing just yet, you already get the idea that it's a matter of desperate times calling for very desperate measures.

We then travel off into space to see what Hawkman is up to.  I expected a little more blood right away, but I didn't have to wait too long.  I don't want to spoil it, but if you like seeing fights between two kickass characters, you will LOVE this.  It also makes total sense when it comes down to Batman's plan.  We are going to have to wait until at least next week to see how it ends...kind of a mid chapter cliffhanger going on here.

Back on Earth, things are a bit more quiet, but that doesn't make them any better.  Superman continues his "If you're not with me, you're against me" world tour and Atlantis is next up.  Instead of yelling "Goodnight Cleveland!", Supes asks Aquaman the thousand dollar question and while Aquaman obviously has no love for the Man of Steel, he pledges his allegiance to get him out of Atlantis.  Way to make a stand Arthur!

The chapter continues by showing that Batman's secrets have secrets and that Harriet Tubman is an obvious inspiration.  The chapter ends with a crazy cliffhanger that shows that when Superman's away, Team Batman will play...and fight...and possibly die.  We'll have to wait and see and I can't wait.

Brian Buccellato gives fans a pretty crazy issue filled with action, but it still felt like setup.  The reason is probably because the major events don't finish out here, but are left hanging until next week (hopefully next week, that is).  That being said, I liked everything here and can't wait to see how it all ends up.

Xermanico kicks complete ass this issue.  His character work is awesome and his best work is easily Hawkman.  His Hawkman is so great!  I mean, it is awesome!  Guess what?  I like Xermanico's Hawkman more than a little.

Bits and Pieces:

This issue of Injustice is action packed and the only thing I didn't like is that we have to wait to see how it all works out.  I can't wait and that's the best compliment I can give Brian Buccellato.  His story and Xermanico's awesome art (did I mention I love his Hawkman?) combine to get me geared up for the stretch run of this book and while the end will be a little bittersweet, it's going to be one hell of a ride!  One hell of a ride!

8.7/10

  1. There's an update for last issue in iBooks. Changed "KATE" to "BARBARA".
YES! I thought I wouldn't like Hawkman anyway since he's a wife beater. Well, the fight is fascinating. And who's the "he" Raven visits?

  2. I'm really looking forward to the Batman/Cyborg Batwoman/Hawkgirl fight next issue; I think it'll be pretty brutal. The preview text for future issues reveals that the team is probably going to still all be alive at least by issue #34, so I'm not too worried yet.
