I have been so into the return of Tom Taylor to the book that he made famous and he hasn't disappointed at all.  It's all about the characters and I stand by my statement that Taylor writes the best Harley Quinn there is.  Of course, this book comes down to Batman vs Superman and while that is still the case, having another (more violent) Batman out and about makes things really interesting. So, what do we get this week?  Let's find out...

The issue starts with a little rundown of the security in place to keep Superman incarcerated.  It's all well and good in theory, but since we see Superman breaking out, it seems like a mute point.  Seeing Superman get out of his cell is such a big moment, especially for long time readers.

We then see how the Warden and guards preparing for the worst and when they get Batman in their sights, they get it.  Yea, this isn't the "real" Batman and that spells trouble for all involved thanks to Deadshot.

After getting the classic bad guys walking like badasses shot, we see the real Batman (I promise this time) with Oliver, Dinah and Babs.  The Dark Knight tells the others what to do and assures them that the Red Sun lamps weren't the only defenses to keep Superman locked up.

We get a pretty cool Green Arrow and Black Canary bit that is quickly overshadowed by an awesome Harley, Green Arrow and Black Canary bit.  I have to admit, I got a little misty eyed at the reunion of my favorite threesome even if Ollie was hilariously confused by what was going on.

The issue ends with Batman (the real one) and Supes face to face once again and while you'd think that a now free Man of Steel might be intimidating, even to Batman, we see that Batman does indeed prepare for everything.  Without spoiling it...we get another new character to Injustice 2 and it's so, so, so awesome.  It also makes sense, but that's secondary to it being so, so, so awesome.  Did I mention it's awesome?!?!

This is a very quick reading chapter that still had some big moments for new and old readers.  I would pay just to see Harley, Oliver and Dinah together again and I can't wait to see Harley (and Lucy???) meet little Conner.  The rest is just bonus...awesome bonus at that!

While Bruno Redondo isn't on this issue, Daniel Sampere jumps on and does a really good job.  I really like his Batman and Green Arrow, but his best character is the one in the cliffhanger.  So good.

Bits and Pieces:

While this is more of a setup issue than the four before it, Tom Taylor gives fans of Team Harley/Oliver/Dinah a really great moment and ends the issue with an awesome cliffhanger.  The art by Daniel Sampere was really good and this continues being my favorite book out right now.

8.5/10

  2. Tom Taylor is a god damn treasure. This book just makes me giddy. Between Harley seeing Ollie and the ending scenario....I just get so happy at the cool-ness of it. It just seems crazy and fun. DC get this dude on a big book!
