Nerdgasm 2: Electric Boogaloo

So when last we blew our load all over Earth 2, Superman wanted to kill everything.  So go back and check out my review for Earth 2 #16 if you missed it, and if you missed it how dare you.  So let's jump back into a world where Superman is a bad guy, and all the heroes who could stop him are pretty much rookies.  So say the magic words and I'll....

Explain It!:

We start this issue in an underground base with General Lane, and Dr. Crane. (possibly a non crazy Scarecrow of Earth 2?)  With Superman now of the crazy variety, General Lane needs to activate the Red Tornado, who we find out in this Earth is Lois Lane.  Not sure on the science but somehow they saved her consciousness when she died five years ago.

Outside the group of wonders are trying to regroup and figure out how to take down Superman.  Nobody has any Kryptonite, so how else do you take down the Man of Steel?  Poor poor Dr. Fate knows that magic is the only way.  So Dr. Fate goes out to face Superman, and in my mind the fight lasts about two minutes.  It's so bad, how much punishment Dr. Fate takes.  But before it's too late Flash rushes in and gets him out of there.  We find out that all that punishment Fate took, cracked the helmet of Nabu, and when Flash takes the helmet off, well apparently it cracked Khalid too.  He starts spouting off nonsense, which Red Arrow takes for insanity or prophecy, but we don't know which yet.  Flash runs back off to get Superman's attention so that others may get away.

Back in the underground facility, Red Tornado isn't the only awesome thing down there.  Batman is making his way down to the sub levels to where they keep all the monsters and madmen they've rounded up over the years. All the security of the World Army doesn't stand a chance. Batman makes his way to the vault, and makes his intentions clear.  He plans on unleashing all these monsters to try to take down Superman.

Meanwhile Superman's tantrum has made the facility very unstable, and the lab crumbles killing General Lane.  Before he dies Red Tornado comes to his side, and we see that Lois Lane does actually live inside the robotic shell.  Before he dies, General Lane is comforted in the thought that his daughter actually lives on.

Bits and Pieces:

After last issue, I really don't see anyway that this issue couldn't be great.  There is so much going on, and for this book it isn't a hindrance.  You care about every story that is going on, and the only thing that makes it hell is that in the end you have to wait another month to get more.  Tom Taylor makes a strong first performance for this book, and as always Nicola Scott's artwork reinforces why I'm a comic book fan.  By far the best title DC has to offer in the New 52.  Go get it now.

9/10

  1. The Doctor Crane with Red Tornado is probably Robert Crane, who was the original Robot-Man.

  2. Oh good call. I forgot all about the golden age Robot Man. Hopefully this will be explored more. Again good call.
