*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The Oz Effect continues in this issue and hopefully we'll see Superman do more than go around the world and try to stop humanity from being the pieces of shit that Mr. Oz/Jor-El knows them to be....... I won't hold my breath though.  Yeah, I haven't been the biggest fan of this arc because we started off with the reveal of who Mr. Oz was and it may not be the best way to argue why it was good or bad, but I just wasn't a fan........ because I didn't like it.  With that, we moved on to see the people of Earth doing terrible things from the suggestions of the Agents of Oz and in the previous issue, we saw Jor-El reach out to Jon so that he can get his grandson on the trolley of leaving Earth and going to a better planet, where he can finally just be himself.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Jon's ready to pack his bags or not.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with more of the same, where Superman is off saving people, before trying to get the leader of Logamba and the leader of the rebel army together so that they can finally begin talks of peace.......... and really, just how to not shoot chemical weapons at one another.  It doesn't seem like this peace treaty goes really well though because eventually, Superman just rounds up all the weapons in the country and destroys them, before flying back to Metropolis and hoping that the people of this country can work their differences out.

Back at the Fortress of Solitude, Jor-El is still trying to pitch his idea of a perfect new planet to Jon....... and it seems to be working, but for all the trust that Jon seems to have in his grandfather, I don't think it's going to help convince Superman of anything because when he makes his way back to Metropolis, he discovers the Agents of Oz trying to fill the city with gas that would end up killing the populace and now that he knows that one plus one equals my dad's a bad guy, he flies off to Lois, where they're both met by Jor-El and Jon and daddy dearest tries to convince his son and his family that leaving Earth is the right thing to do................ Superman isn't buying any of this though.

That's it for this issue of Action Comics and while we do have a lot of rehashing of things that we've seen throughout this arc already....... and even things we saw in the previous issue, it seems that the groundwork has finally been laid and we can start seeing what this story is going to be all about and on what side of the line of good and evil that Jor-El will be standing.  Yeah, I really dug the fact that Superman has finally learned what his father is up to and because of that aspect...... plus, Jon seeming to be on his grandfather's side, I finally can't wait for the next issue to come because up until now, it really just felt like we were reading the same things over and over again.  The art in this issue was as great as always and as long as that stays consistent with the little tidbit of information that Jor-El gave us about an impending doom coming Earth's way, I can see Action Comics being a must read once again.

Bits and Pieces:

While a lot of this issue rehashes the same old things that we've been seeing from this arc, it does eventually get exciting and makes me really interested in what we're going to get from the next issue.  The art in this issue is great and it finally feels like we're getting somewhere with the Oz Effect.

7/10

  1. I feel like this book just isn't moving at all. Reminds me of the Doomsday arc that the book started with.

  2. Oz believes in openness and honesty while demanding nothing... I’m calling bull crap. He has a team of Oz agents ready to kill the citizens of Metropolis, he is not open about this “very deadly and unbeatable threat, and demands that all of Earth’s people must die. Seems like a villain to me!

    1. "There's a powerful and deadly threat on it's way, but I'd like to speed things up a bit and get the jump on that guy."

  3. Four issues of this could have been reduced down to two at the most post reveal. I'm just bored to death with all this which isn't how this is supposed to work ... THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS RIGHT?
