We're back to our Scarecrow arc where the last issue I really found myself having a good time for the first time........... Well, in a long time.  I really hope that continues with this issue, especially now that Matt McGinnis has become the Robin Beyond and has joined his brother in battle.  The only problem........ They're battling all of Neo Gotham, who sees our heroes has demonic monsters that need to be killed.  Let's jump into this issue and see how it stacks up.  Let's check it out.

Not only does this issue continue the fun of the previous issue, but I think that it exceeds it a bit as well because not only do we go through this issue and see how this new Scarecrow is different than the previous one in how it works its fear, but we get to continue to see Terry and Matt work together in a big way.

Really though, we have ourselves a continued fight scene that ends in a satisfying way and the biggest problem with the action in this book is that the first part of it is the bit that we've now had for the past three issues and where it picks back up at the end.......... Well, it doesn't feel all that much different than the original fight.  Besides that though, this issue of Batman Beyond is hitting a ton of checks in making this arc the best one that we've seen out of this title since Rebirth began.

All in all, we have fantastic art all the way through with colors that just jump off the page, while getting our new Dynamic Duo acclimated to each other in a way that feels really satisfying.  While I would like to say that our reveal in this issue was surprising, it was a little too obvious from what we saw before and where I usually praise Dan Jurgens for his cliffhangers, this one just pretty much feels like the majority of cliffhangers that we usually get from Batman Beyond.  Beyond that though, this was a really enjoyable issue and I can't wait to jump back into this story next month.

Bits and Pieces:

Batman Beyond has come out of nowhere with this storyline and surprised the hell out of me for how enjoyable it's been.  We get excellent art in this issue and some really great progression to our story.  Yeah, somethings didn't hit as hard as they could have, but all in all, I had a fun time with this issue.

7.8/10

  1. Why. Hasn't. Terry. Ditched. The suit! Terry in the cartoon knew that there were times when he was better off without it! Even at the start of this run he knew that; or seemed to, but maybe he only tried a different tack because the suit was ruined. Terry's taken several levels in dumbass by not even considering unsuiting and gathering info without being the target, and so has Bruce by also apparently not thinking of it and advising Terry to do that. And unlike in the previous issue, Terry definitely had time, when the crowd was disabled, the girl rescued, and the Scarecrow gone.
