Weird Science DC Comics Best Books of the Week 8/22/18

As you are about to see, this may have been one of the most positive weeks we've had here at the Weird Science studios in a long, long time!  It's so nice to enjoy reading comics, am I right?!?  So, here are our picks of Best Books of the Week...

Mother Panic: Gotham A.D. #6

Written By: Jody Houser
Art By: Ibrahim Mustafa, Jordan Boyd, and John Workman
Cover Price: $3.99
On Sale Date: August 22, 2018

What Chris Said: Both the most satisfying ending and overall-read of this second "season" of Young Animal... and dare I say, the only one worth reading.  The creative team managed to craft a riveting story even under the pressures of cancellation/truncation.

Score: 8.5/10

Teen Titans #21

Writer: Adam Glass
Artist: Bernard Chang
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Letterer: Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
On Sale Date: August 22, 2018

What Chris Said: Putting aside a little bit of Millennial cringe, this was a pretty great issue.  Excellent Titans teamwork with characterization at the fore.

Score: 8.0/10

Justice League Dark #2

Writer: James Tynion IV
Pencils: Alvaro Martínez Bueno
Inks: Raul Fernandez
Colors: Brad Anderson
Letters: Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
On Sale Date: August 22, 2018

What Reggie Said: A new character brings some clarity to the story, instead of introducing a lot of new, confusing elements. How about that? It's almost like a story to be read sequentially. This issue is visually arresting and should impress everyone on that level. The story is picking up fast, and fans of these characters and the DCU magic trappings will be as happy as a pig turned by Circe.

Score: 8.0/10

Batman: Kings of Fear #1

Writer: Scott Peterson
Artist: Kelley Jones, Michelle Madsen, and Rob Leigh
Release Date: August 22, 2018
Cover Price: $3.99

What Jim Said: If you are looking for a classic feeling Batman story that isn't trying too hard to be deep or emotional, this may fit the bill.  Kelly Jones' art is great and Scott Peterson already has me hooked and looking forward to next issue.  Recommended.

Score: 8.5/10

Detective Comics #987

Writer: Bryan Hill
Artist: Miguel Mendonca, Diana Egea, Adriano Lucas and Sal Cipriano
Publisher: DC Comics
Release Date: August 22, 2018
Cover Price: $2.99

What Jim Said: Bryan Hill ends his time on Detective Comics with a really good finale to a good arc. Everything is wrapped up and even if it may have felt a bit too convenient at times, the promise of bigger and better things to come won me over in the end.  If you haven't checked out this arc yet, you really should.

Score: 8.0/10

The Flash #53

Written By: Joshua Williamson
Art By: Christian Duce, Luis Guerrero
Letters By: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 22, 2018

What Dan Said: The Flash is back on track and this issue DELIVERS! We get solid and meaningful progression in every subplot that has been introduced and we have the main story that is interesting and enticing to read. I am excited to see where this book goes from here. Sure, the story may be a little fantastical but I like seeing that kind of risk-taking in books and frankly, it succeeds very well in this issue.

Score: 8.0/10

Batman Beyond #23

Written By: Dan Jurgens
Art By: Will Conrad, Davis Baron, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 22, 2018

What Eric Said: Batman Beyond has come out of nowhere with this storyline and surprised the hell out of me for how enjoyable it's been.  We get excellent art in this issue and some really great progression to our story.  Yeah, somethings didn't hit as hard as they could have, but all in all, I had a fun time with this issue

Score: 7.8/10
