Weird Science DC Comics Best Books of the Week 10/14/18

It is time for the Weird Science Best Books of the Week once again and we have some big ones here for you all this week.  While we may go by the idea that nothing is perfect, we still love DC Comics and here are the ones we liked a little bit more than the others this week...

Catwoman #4

Writer: Joelle Jones
Artist: Joelle Jones, Fernando Blanco, Laura Allred, John Kalisz, and Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 10, 2018

What Jim Said: Joelle Jones continues pushing her story ahead, not with action, but with character moments that are really making this book feel new and fresh.  I thought this issue was going to be all about Selina's sister, Maggie, but it's just as much about Selina herself and it's not all sunshine and lollipops.  This book continues to look great and I am really enjoying it!

Score: 8.8/10

Superman #4

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Oclair Albert, Alex Sinclair, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 10, 2018

What Eric Said: While I haven't been a fan of this Superman book, I have to say that this issue is probably my favorite that we've gotten so far because it was able to balance a huge fight, while also showing us Superman's heart.  Yeah, there's a lot of nonsense in the background that's going on here, but for this issue, I was able to see past that and get a decent issue of Superman that made me long for the days that he had his family by his side.  Also, some of the best art you'll see this week in comics showed up here so that didn't hurt either.

Score: 8.0/10

Wonder Woman #56

Writer: James Tynion IV
Pencils: Emanuela Lupacchino
Inks: Ray McCarthy
Colors: Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Letters: Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
On Sale Date: October 10, 2018

What Reggie Said: The intrigue of this story is maintained as more succumb to Hecate's witchmark. The dialogue is sharp, the pages will dazzle, this is a good comic book. I don't know if folks new to DC's Dark characters will like it, but they should sure give it a look anyway!

Score: 8.0/10

Supergirl #23

Written By: Marc Andreyko
Art By: Kevin Maguire, Sean Parsons, Wade Von Grawbadger, FCO Plascencia, Chris Sotomayor
Letters By: Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 10, 2018

What Dan Said: While this book only has a couple of long scenes, I still found it very entertaining. It didn’t reveal enough of the mystery in my opinion but it has given me enough to be interested in seeing what happens next. And isn’t that really the goal of any book?

Score: 7.5/10

Red Hood and the Outlaws #27

Written By: Scott Lobdell
Art By: Pete Woods, ALW's Troy Peteri
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 10, 2018

What Eric Said: Jason Todd has grown so much and even though it feels like he's reverted back to a previous form lately, this issue really shows how much he's progressed in the last decade and makes me really love the character more than I thought I could.  With that though, there isn't much to this issue, which is a shame because it spent so much time doing so little, while not giving us the parts that really packed a punch..... and really, that may be the point of the issue in dealing with Roy's death, but like most things in life, I could have dealt with a little more here.

Score: 7.5/10
