OUTATIME

In the past, when we read about the Titans in the future, Kid Flash staged a coup during his trial.  So a lot of fighting between the Functionary and the Revolutionists, The Titans and the Revolutionists, and even the Titans and Kid Flash.  The fight was stopped though, when Kid Flash's sister came, and talked some sense into the renegade speedster.  In the end Kid Flash accepted his punishment, and was sentenced to life with hard labor, but he won't be going alone.  In order to not be separated from her love, Solstice killed one of the judges, so she too could be sentenced.  Things are looking bad for the Titans, especially where Superboy is concerned, but if you want info on that, read the book or read the reviews.  With only a couple issues left to the series conclusion, let's hope for the best for our juvenile heroes.

Explain It!:

The issue begins with a flashback to The Colony, where Solstice lost all hope, and became the powered being we know her to be.  She trusted someone in this Hunger Games like scenario, and of course it turned out biting her in the ass.  She was led straight into an ambush.  Right when she thought she was about to die, an explosion emitted from her body, incinerating all of her attackers.  At her darkest moment, Harvest came to her, and told her that he was trying to help everyone, one life at a time.  Now the reason we're discussing this is because Solstice is telling Bart the worst part of her life, to lead into the best, which is of course Bart.  The two are talking about their love, and the choices they've made, when Red Robin enters the holding cell, to say his goodbyes.  It really tugs at your heartstrings when you stop and think about how Red Robin must be dealing with the loss of his friends, and there isn't anything he can do about it.  His team is falling apart, and with it his dream of uniting super powered teens to have a chance in the world, and to make a difference.  The goodbyes are said, and Red Robin watches his friends leave the ship, and head towards the end of their lives.

Now that he's had to leave two of his friends behind, Red Robin decides it's time to get closer to another.  Remember when Tim was being manipulated by Trigon, and slept with Wonder Girl, even though she was dating Superboy?  Well you should, it was a big deal.  Especially in the drama fueled world of teenagers.  Now that the team is falling apart, and Superboy has decided to stay in the future (even though we know he didn't, well you'd know if you read Superboy), it looks like the feelings Tim and Cassie have for each other can finally be explored.

It's time to finally go back to the present, and leave all this future nonsense behind us.  Raven, Red Robin, and Wonder Girl step onto the platform, and get sent back to a world where the Crime Syndicate rule supreme.  So in the end, our heroes make it back, and are reunited with Bunker and Beast Boy, who are in the middle of a fight for their lives.  Their backup has arrived, and we see who the big bads they're fighting are.  The Light, and The Way.  They look like rejects from The Colony, but we'll have to wait and see.  So the team has shrunk substantially, but at least they're back in their own time.  But it's a little late since we only have an issue, and an annual left.  See you next month, so we can explore some more adolescent adventures and something else that starts with an A.

Bits and Pieces:

While Lobdell has taken a lot of grief for his run of Teen Titans, and I'm not innocent here either, I bitched and moaned.  This issue was really emotional, and the Titans finally felt like a team again.  It was pure character, and actually made you feel.  I swear whenever a title is canceled, the last couple of issues become really good.  It happens every time, and this series is no exception.  So finish your Teen Titans run with a bang, and get this issue.  It's totally worth it, and I'm missing the Titans already.

8.5/10
