Smallville: Lantern #11 Review and Spoilers

Written by: Bryan Q. Miller
Art by: Ig Guara
Cover Price: $0.99
Release Date: May 23, 2014

No Fear

Prometheus introduces himself and it's not pronounced with an "umpty".  Green Arrow then intoduces his head to Prometheus' nose.  Firefly gets cancelled while Batman  focuses on a reboot.  In the end, the rings may be off, but the fight is still on.

I love this comic.  I know that's no surprise to anyone who has read my reviews in the past. Unfortunately, that means that I sometimes run out of things to say.  I hate to repeat myself.  I hate to repeat myself.  Joking aside, I could just make a post that says "Highly Recommended" and auto publish it every Friday at 6:30 and use the time to do other things like cook my family dinner, but what's the fun in that?  The answer is none. Plus, that would spit in the face of Internet journalistic integrity and where would that lead us?  Okay, enough of my rhetorical questions, on with the review.

This issue starts off with the red headed step child of the Lantern series, Prometheus.  After being teased and almost forgotten, it's his turn to shine, right?  Well, if getting beat to hell by Green Arrow is your definition of "shinning", then yes.  He seriously ends up on the wrong side of Oliver's 3D printer Battle Suit and it's pretty awesome.  Bryan Q. Miller also uses the battle to show why I love his Green Arrow.  He is hilarious, but also fights for the right things.

We then meet up with Batman who is still trying to get his hands on a Yellow ring.  The funny thing is, we quickly realize that the ring wants to get Batman as well.  In a move that Chuck Norris would be proud of, Batman rejects the Yellow Ring.  Yes, he just says no and gets on with the business at hand.  That's why Batman is the best.  He does get the information that Emil needs to cause the rings to reset.  All the rings.

The rings reset and it's raining villains all over Gotham.  While John Stewart gathers his wits, Superman, sans giant yellow sword construct through his chest, acts like the fight has just started...with John?!?!

Another great issue.  Bryan Q, Miller not only knows his Smallville, the guy can write the hell out of a weekly comic.  He knows exactly the right amount to give you to make you love it, but also leaves the carrot dangling.  While it was quick, the Batman bit was my favorite this week and with one issue left in the arc, I know Lex will be around next week.  I can't wait.

Ig Guara does a great job again this week.  The action between Green Arrow and Prometheus was the highlight, but the two headed yellow dragon construct over Gotham was pretty good as well.

Bits and Pieces:

Smallville: Lanterns #11 is another great issue in a really good story arc.  Bryan Q. Miller's story teamed with Ig Guara's art makes it a must read.  I can't wait for next week's finale, but I will be sad when it's over.  Highly Recommended (Internet Journalistic Integrity seal of approval).

  1. Firefly gets cancelled? That was one of those moments where I started laughing and groaning at the same time.
