Weird Science: DC Comics News: July 4th Edition

Heloooooooo Everybody and welcome to Weird Science DC Comics News, the leading written podcast that's on a blog that wants to be a site.  For all you Americans out there, Happy Fourth of July Weekend.  To all you Canadians, Happy Canada Day.  I was in Canada once.  I went to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.  I kissed the Stanley Cup (and got yelled at), saw a bunch of Rocket Richard pictures and had a grand old time.  Toronto was a really cool city, but our time there started with a weird breakfast.  Now, there was about 12 guys from my hockey team from the Philadelphia area on the trip, half of which were wearing Flyers Jerseys.  I'm a lifelong Penguins fan because I have good taste, but I digress. So, 12 meatheads, obviously from the Philadelphia area and the waiter comes over and says, "You guys from Toronto, eh?"  Okay, maybe he didn't say "eh", but I'd like to think he did.   We all just looked at him in confusion while he gave us our menus.  I looked at the menu and saw "peameal bacon".  I had never heard of peameal bacon, so when the waiter returned I asked him what it was.  He responded, "It's peameal bacon".  Then I said, "but what's peameal bacon" to which he replied, "It's peamaeal bacon."  I was going to get it anyway, but I thought maybe Ashton was in Toronto that day and I was getting Punk'd.  That's a lie, Punk'd was probably 6 years from gracing us with it's awesome presence.  I had my chance to try peameal bacon that day and let it slip through my fingers because of my ignorance and a pretty lousy waiter.  The moral of the story, The minute you discover a cock fighting ring in your basement, go to the cops, don't try to stop it yourself.  Those cock fighting guys are pretty tough.

Okay, enough about me.  Guess what we have this week?  Actual news!!!  I'm not talking about the Vampire Diaries writers doing the comic kind of news, either.  Nope.  Honest to goodness DC Comics News.  Imagine that.  And so, with plenty of Ado,

On With The News...

Deathstroke Gets Another Chance

You can't look anywhere without seeing Slade Wilson these days.  Arrow, Video Games, the New Suicide Squad, my shower...Well, DC is giving him another chance at a Monthly book, as well.  Written and Drawn by Tony S. Daniel who is great.  I would guess that Deathstroke will kill a few folks at some point in the series. The book drops on October 22nd.  I'm not a huge fan of the Terminator, but I can understand DCs thinking.  The guy is as hot as Hansel, right now.

Green Arrow Gets New Creative Team

Blasphemy! Bullocks! Dagnabbit! Where Are My Keys?!  Green Arrow is one of my favorite comics, period.  Yes, I love Ollie, but it's Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino that I really love.  The love affair is officially over in October, though.  October 1st to be exact. That's when Green Arrow #35 comes out with a new creative team.  Remember, this is a judge free zone so I won't bad mouth anyone. Andrew Kreisberg and Ben Sokolowski of Arrow fame are taking over the writing duties with Daniel Sempere on art.  I guess DC is upset that while Arrow has been a runaway hit, it hasn't translated into increased book sales.  I know there will be a big backlash when that first issue hits, but I will give the new guys a chance.  Other people can write and draw Green Arrow...just not as good.  Sorry, judgement free zone.

First Picture of Dawn of Justice Superman

There it is.  Look at it.  I know you want to.  If you need to be alone, I understand.  I don't know what else to say.  It's Superman, he looks kind of angry and the movie comes out May 6, 2016.  I still think it's a courtroom drama the likes of which we haven't seen since Jury Duty.

Two New Bat Titles in October

The one thing this World needs is more Bat titles, right?.  Well, our prayers are answered with Arkham Manor and Gotham Academy coming in October.  Arkham Manor is about Wayne Manor being turned into a deadly maze where insane people go to die. Okay?!  I'll let Eric read and review this one.  Sounds like The Cube meets Saw meets the Cube 2: Hypercube.  It comes out on October 22nd with the creative team of Gerry Duggan and Shawn Crystal.  Gotham Academy sounds more for me.  It's a teen book set guessed it, Gotham Academy. Where the teachers are crazy, but not as crazy as the students.  Fun times are guarenteed for all.  Sounds like FF meets Harry Potter meets Spy Kids meets Lumberjanes meets Goonies minus Police Academy with a little Sixteen Candles sprinkled in. Awesome. It comes out October 1st with Becky Cloonan and Brendan Fletcher writing and art by Karl Kerschl.

Just Watch this Video

Everyone with Netflix should be watching "Can't Buy Me Love"...Community really took a nosedive after season 3...I can't wait to read Grayson this week...and see the crazy reactions to it...I really like the teaser ad for The New Suicide Squad...I'm so behind in Futures End and don't know when I'll catch up...Why did Geoff Johns favorite Eric's Justice League review, but not my Superman Review...I like the Tin Man...

Another Week, Another News.  Jim "It's Peameal Bacon" Werner...out!
